any other name?

Chesapeake, VA(Zone 7b)

Hi all. I purchased this hoya at Lowes the other day. The smell of the flowers is unreal! However, I see there is a lot of varieties of Carnosa but I haven't found anything called "Green Leaf". Does anyone know exactly what I purchased? Any special care needed? Thanks

That is a healthy looking Hoya lacunosa you got there. And you're right, the fragrance is wonderful! I have my lacunosa where it gets lots of light, but not much sun.

WOW - you bought that at Lowes and it was IN BLOOM?! Lucky you! Around here, you'd never find such a thing.
As for what kind - - I'm definately no expert but I'm guessing Lacunosa.
Others will be along to give you a more definate answer.
*sigh* How I wish my local Lowes would carry such a plant!! =0)
GREAT HOYA SCORE!

Thanks! I couldn't believe it either when I found it. I walked by and smelled something so I looked around until I found it. Snatched it up and cound't believe it was only $6.99. I bought another one that said it was "bilobota" ?!? I did a plant search and couldn't find any pics of it. Does anyone know what the flowers look like?

Ah, the old Bilobata debate; I don't believe it exists, but EA likes the name. Could be a few different possibilities. Do you have a picture?
Christine

Edited to say, by the way, you scored a lovely H.Lacunosa.

not right now but I can say that the leaves are small and a deep dark blue green and fuzzy. it doesn't seem to be a climber like the lacunosa. I was tickled to death to get the lacunosa. Just to have one that smelled so nice. Husband said everytime he sees me I have nose stuck in that plant! He just doesn't get it!

I just can't believe EA and how careless they are with labeling. I know they've been contacted before about it. Just don't seem to care.

That's a lovely H. lacunosa!

Yeah...EA is concerned - all the way to the bank!!!!!

The bilobata I got from them was actually DS 70 :)

Check out my new HD score. It is a DS-70 (or, in the EA world, a "bilobata").

And, Joanne, before you ask ('cause I know I would...), this was the only hoya they had in the whole joint (not only did I look for more, but I also asked the nice lady that "takes care" of the plants). But, you know me, I will keep my eye out for you!!!

Sandy and Carol, the nice lady that "takes care" of the plants asked how you two were doing - she just walked right up to me and started asking - you both made quite the positive impression!!!

BTW, for those wondering why I write takes care in quotation marks, it is because taking care of plants at the HD means overwater and death. So, I try and snatch 'em up before they get the chance to "take care" of the plants.

Ann, That looks identical to the one I bought a Lowes and don't have a pic of. Do you think it is a bilabota? I made the lady who "takes care" of the ones at Lowes mad the other day because I walked by a bunch of AV's and half were in a tray (pool more likely) of water filled to the brim and the other half were bone dry. The dirt was half inch from the pot they were so dry. made me so mad, I looked around and saw the "care taker" at the other end so I dumped most of the water out and into the the tray the others were in. Made a hugh mess in the process but I got em some water. Few mins later she was over there cleaning up the mess (mop) I made :) Oh well, should have done it right the first time!!!! I hate when i walk in those places and everything looks so pitiful. Ought to be a law about that.

pdoyle it's not a bilabota, as Ms. Kat said it's probably a DS-70 aka Tsangii. Your lacunosa is awesome. By the way I have a sister in Chesepeake:-)

Hi Awabda.. I have checked out your websight. Lovely. Thanks for the info. Does the Tsangii smell when blooming? Small world isn't? I live in the Great Bridge section of Ches. I have also been reading on the hoya forum and noticed some of these require different care. (temps and humidy) i have mine outside in a screened in porch for the summer. Will these do ok in my sunroom over the winter? Faces east and i keep it pretty cool at night. I think the coldes I have seen it get in there is around 38 degrees near a window.

Sorry I spelled your names wrong. My speed typing is not so great.

And looks like you had a little helper there while you were taking the photo. How does the real Miss Kitty like the new hoya?

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Well, the real kitty is actually a Mr. (and there are two of them). The one in the photo (Remus) got irritated with me because I wouldn't let him have a taste-test. For once I have a plant without chew-marks!
