I just bought these yesterday, and the planting instructions sound a lot like how I used to plant azeleas in the south.....slightly raised above the soil line, with a 2 inch berm around it....but other than that, I can't find much info on it. Any suggestions? thanks
Has anyone tried Wiri Blush Hebes?
Hebes are very easy. They like good drainage and full sun, I try and not water too much, they are from Austrailia and like to dry out between watering. I have a lot of hebes, including this one. This one has not bloomed yet, just put it in late last year. They are some of the easiest things to grow, evergreen, no bugs seem to bother them and most of them will bloom a couple times a year and blooms here and there all year long. They are as tough and easy as daylilies.

thanks again, Rebecca! I just planted my second one and hope that it grows fast enough to hide a utility box in my little front garden. do you think it will bloom this year? It's only about a foot tall, but pretty bushy. How much did yours grow the first year? The label says it will get 4 feet tall by 4 feet wide.
It should bloom this year, seems they bloom heavy in summer and another flush in fall. I really like the hebes. I did some variegated ones from cuttings and they are only about 6 inches high and the little things are blooming, more flower than bush. The variegated ones are really pretty with nice purple blooms and a very nice blue one is Blue Mist. Watch it, you may get hooked.
Mine is about 2 feet tall, not hte fastest growing one I have but a very nice bushy plant with nice leaves. I am surprised this one is not blooming yet, I am still waiting for the flower.
Rebecca
thanks, rebecca.... what are their watering needs? Mine get full sun.
They don't need a lot of water, full sun is good, they will flower well. I never fertilize them either, they are just tough.
Good luck, remember, once you get the hebe bug you will end up with a whole bunch!

I have some hebes that I planted last Fall. I have little experience with ornamental gardening, so everything I do is an experiment. I'm glad to hear they are easy, as that is the kind of plant I need. My question is this: Do hebes need pruning, and if so what time of year and how should I do it? I really have no idea how to prune correctly and tend to let everything just grow, so if anyone can give specific instructions, I would be grateful. Thanks.
Depends on which one you are growing and the size and shape you want. I have one called Great Orme, it grows about 3 feet and perfectly rounded. I have never pruned it. Most of them branch out nicely but if you want to keep them shorter then you can prune to keep them lower. I don't think you can hurt one. I got one from a friend that was 6 feet tall in a gallon pot. The roots were mostly lost in getting the pot loose from the ground. I got it home and cut it back to 1 inch and its very nice now, nearly one year later. I do not know which one this is, its one of the unusual ones that gets very tall. Most are 3-4 feet.
