some of my caterpillars

Here are some of my babies- I found one dead, don't know what happened- but there are about 18 growing ones on this pot of tangerine seedlings!

Oh, my! What kind of cats are they? Very interesting...

I would say "how cute" but... But then they are supposed to look like bird poop! lol I hope your plant is big enough for all of them. (Didn't you run into this problem in another post?) I hate when I run out of food!

I watched a GST lay eggs on my Rue, probably about 5, and could only find one when I looked for them. I had decided to let them stay outside so I checked on it daily. It finally hatched and was definitely an itty bitty bird poop. But a few days later I went and checked on him and he was gone and a nasty spider was near his leaf! I thumped the spider off and brought the BST cats inside. (Now I'm overflowing with too many cats inside)

Good luck!

They are Giant Swallowtails- there are more than a dozen on the plant.

You are so lucky!!! We are having our summer already. Today is going to be over 100 degrees (like it was yesterday). We didn't have any of that 'June gloom" this year which is a shame because it is so much easier to shoot photos in it.

That is the first time I have seen a Giant Swallowtail cat and you are right: they look like bird poop. I guess that is a camoflauging so they will make it to butterfly stage. I had one or two cats of Gulf Fritillaries on my new passiflora but the neighborhood birds are savvy now so they scooped them up. I guess we have the greatest amount of cats (GFs) in the winter.

Thank you very much for sharing your cats with us...

Chuck
