Hi all, I've been lurking and searching for a while, actually seaching since January. I had a horrible front yard - broken tooth cedar hedge, fir tree growing into utility lines - ugh! The fir decided to die, which was good, otherwise I would have cried taking out a healthy tree! So it's now bare, with sod removed out 12', the intent is for more removed, but the fellow I had remove the sod didn't take out the curves I marked, I'll be doing those as needed this year then finish up as wanted next year.
My problem: I had conjured up a plan that I thought I liked, but now I don't like it. I had it drawn in PS, but my puter died, now I'm working on a laptop and can't recreate it. The area is 90' long, runs north-south, south end at the driveway, the house is 42' to the east of the fence (chainlink). My plan is/was to have a Tolleson's Weeping juniper near the south end, then 3 Spartan junipers in a loose triangle, then an Austrian pine, and another loose triangle of Wichita Blue junipers -these will be spread out over the front border. In amongst these are 3 elders - Madonna, Black Lace, and Black Beauty, plus 3 butterfly bushes, an Arnold Red honeysuckle and a Smokey saskatoon, and 2 smokebushes - these are the larger shrubs, plus I want a crabapple in there somewhere, lol, I also have a few small ones and some grasses for frontage (yard side), the back is the priority. I had taken the weeping juniper and pine for a walk to the front, then decided the triangles of the upright junipers isn't going to look right, too contrived. I want to interrupt the view to the road, but still keep the view of the mountains to the west, the pine is intended to go a little north f the front door of the house, then it will shade the house in midsummer, in the winter the sun is far enough to the south that it won't be a bad spot for it, there is a maple planted near the south end of the house, too close, but I didn't plant it, and didn't know enough to move it when I first moved in :(
Here I am with a lot of plants, and I don't like my plan, can anyone help with some ideas? I'm getting panicky, we've had lots of rain, but soon it's going to get hot, the area here is not quite semi arid, very alkaline water and soil - hence my shrub choices. All input is much appreciated!
