all of a sudden, some of the leaves on my corn are yellow...what to do? Should I be worried? I have grown this corn from seed and I don't want it to die. Do I need fertilizer? I did osmocote for veggies, but that was more than a month ago. Help!
yellow leaves on corn
Usually yellow leaves happen if corn has been in soggy wet ground too long. Also cold and cloudy weather early in the season will give a yellow cast.
If the above is not the cause, it might need more nitrogen to green and healthy it up.
Just the bottom leaves? you are probably ok, if the corn is fully tasseled. Yellow leaves in general are usually a nitrogen deficiency. Corn is a grass and a very heavy feeder especially for nitrogen. Another possibility is waterloged roots. That is why well drained soil is specified. I only experience this in low places in the field during long wet spells. Have not had one of those in years.
My problem exactly, the low places are the most yellow. My corn is about 1 - 1.5' tall. Now that the rain seems to be over, will it be okay? Do I need to add fertilizer or something?
