Strange Cosmos

Athol, MA

Last year I planted a pkg. of plain old Cosmos seeds. They came up o.k. This year they're back again. Isn't this rather odd? I thought they were strictly annuals.

They reseed themselves very well, there are many annuals that act as perennials that way.

Small birds like to eat the seeds and help spread them around. I had some going for about 10 years off of a six pack that I bought at HD's. We had a truly atrocious wet spring and they didn't come back after, but I figured I got a great deal for my six pack. The plants would get to be 4 ft. tall and they all became the regular purple color, but hey, i didn't have to plant them for 10 years and the sparrows and finches were happy campers too.

Yes, the finches alone will dive bomb the plants to get the seeds! Certainly worth planting them just to watch the action!

My cosmos come back every year along with snapdragons and morning glories.

Mine, too. The Morning Glories, much to our dismay.
