Separating Pups from Travellers Trees

Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b)

We separated some pups from one of my traveller's trees and they didn't have roots, so I dipped them in rootone # 8 , potted them up & they are in the greenhouse in filtered sunlight. Do you think these will root?

I believe this is the tree you're referring to? Personally I don't know anything about them, but the comments at the bottom of the entry talk a little about caring for them so maybe there's something there that will help you.

I thought I had travellers palms, and was told it was Giant White Bird of Paradise and Im still not sure which i have or if they are the same thing,

any way i have tried twice unsuccessfully to root some pups. I never can get any root, they seem to come right out of the trunk of the main tree and im left with a fan of leaves that evertually go to mush at the base and just fall apart. I have another pup about 4 ft now that I want to try , a local gardener told me I should dig int the main trunk and cut a chunk out with the pup but Im not sure I want to damage the main tree like that.

Keep us posted

That's the one Ravenala madagascarensis. I separated 4 pups and tried to include part of the Mother plant with each one, dipped in rootone (now that was a trick I mastered cause you know the size of the little bottle?), and planted in moist potting soil and put in the shady portion of the greenhouse. I'll let you know if they "take." I sure hope they do. This is definitely not White Bird of Paradise. I'll try to take pix of the parent plants alongside my pond & you can tell the difference.

Celt, if you have pups then I think you probably have the Ravenala rather than the BOP...I don't think those have pups. Here are pics of the BOP...I'm not good with common names, one of these has the common name Giant BOP and the other one is White BOP, so I'm not sure which one would be Giant White BOP!
