Here aremy nanners that are about to ripen (Think they are Lady Fingers)...and another tree almost right beside it is about to bloom. This will be a great year for nanners...now I need an AeAe Nanner and a Red Nanner.....

close up of the fuit...they are short and fat and some of the stem are starting to turn a little yellowish. Judging by when the first hand popped out, they should be ripe sometime in the next two weeks....so it is following the anticipated cycle.

Oooh, Don, get your hiney down here...David has promised me an electric ice cream maker now that the Chilton County peaches are in and I've managed to squish some peaches up into vanilla ice cream and introduced him to that truly southern delicacy....peaches and cream. I told him I'd settle for a blender so I could make peach milkshakes...but they would only last while the peaches are in season...whereas if he buys me an ice cream maker, I can make enough homemade peach ice cream to last all year. His memories of homemade ice cream ran to runny stuff that melted too fast. He didn't know that you can put it up and it will get harder. Nor has he ever had any of the millions of varieties of homemade ice cream that are possible when you live in a produce rich state!

If you hurry maybe you can make it down here before TS Alberto makes landfall and we can call it an Hurricane Party Dress Rehearsal. Too bad Lisa is workign all the time these days (her boss is leaving and she is going to have to clone herself and do two jobs at one time for a while). Ya know, before I left Florida, I had quite a reputation for giving the best hurricane parties in town...even though I never even attended a hurricane party, much less threw one. I always thought it was totally stupid to get so drunk you lose control when you have a dangerous storm bearing down on you and need to have your wits about you. But you know how these rumors get started...Everybody knew I was a storm junkie and that I tracked them with the fervor of a football fanatic on SuperBowl Sunday......add to that the fact that I can flat out cook some seriously awesome grub (and usually do going into a storm)....and a rumor is born.

So, let's see...we'll start with my lady fingers bananas, slice them lengthwise, layer on a scoop of peach ice cream, a layer of strawberry ice cream...and maybe even experiment with making some cantaloupe ice cream.....then we will drizzle some caramel sauce and chocolate ganache over it, add a large dollop of home made whipped cream and, of course, some peanuts since this is peanut country...and finally a cherry on the top. All ingredients will be from local produce except the marschino cherry and the carmel sauce and chocolate ganache. Now, if you are like me, you just gained five pounds from simply reading that....LOL!

LOL!
If that wasn't bad enough my blood sugar ran right off the scale!!!!
After I cranked the ice cream, until I couldn't crank anymore, and thats sitting in the middle between 2 ice cream makers, cranking both at the same time,we'd but towels with ice around and over the top of the tubs and let it set up and get hard, before we'd serve the ice cream!
Never had the cantalope one,and that does sound good!!!!
I wish I could come down, haven't seen my moms side of the family, since 1975,most of them are gone now, have one aunt still down in Foley, cousins in Montgomery and Greenville.
I told them last time I was down,I wouldn't be back, until they came to see me at least once in there life time, that time is still yet to come!!!
Let me know how sweet those nanners are!!!

Heck, you oughta know you can't get die hard southerners to cross the Mason Dixon line! My mom swore she would follow Dad to the ends of the earth...as long as he didn't ask her to cross the Mason Dixon...and she never did! When David and I got married, we decided to have the wedding in central Illinois because his family are all blue collar workers who only work during the warm months and who can't afford to take more than a day off work...not even for a wedding or funeral. So we figured that since my family could afford to travel up there with no problems, we would get married up there. WRONG! The only family that came to the wedding from my side was my son! Of course, we are running into the same problem with David's mom....we have offered to pay her air fare to come down and see us because we can't get away to go up there...and we can fly her down for less than half the price that the two of us can travel up there (not to mention bringing all five cats with us!).....but she won't do it. Maybe next winter when it is really, really cold and she is sick of snow and ice...we might be able to talk her into coming down....but it is going to take all my powers of persuasion....
