RJ in Houston D-mailed me a picture of one in his garden, he called it a rose hibiscus, says it has little thorns

Like the color, leaves on the plant, remind me of the hibiscus ,known as Texas Star.
Is this something new, hibiscus with thorns?

Northern Piedmont, NC(Zone 7b)

Jackie, I grew one like that once. It was Hibiscus cannabinus, very thorny, but beautiful flowers.

JJ,are you saying this is not a perrinnal?
Saying you grew it once.

Tropicman, I've read that it is an annual or a perennial in zone 10+. It grew beautiful here in zone7, then the 1st. frost zapped it and it did not return in the spring as my hardy hibiscus do. It was pretty and I'll grow it again, if only I could find my seeds.

The flower so resembles that of the hardy hibiscus,I thought I'd ask.
Can you tell me one more thing, what was the diameter of this flower you posted.
Thanks
