Tomato 'Aunt Ginny's Purple' (Lycopersicon lycopersicum)
Hehe think the person naming it might have been colour blind or looking at the tomato at night =P. Nice Tomato though. Love the meaty ones for sandwhiches and burgers =)
Heh -- I don't get the 'purple' in the name either. Same w/Prudens Purple (another one I like very much). It's a dark, kinda purply-pink at blossom end when dead ripe at best.
Aunt Ginny's cranked them out like a machine for me though (and is still doing so at an avg size of close to a pound).
I'm very, very impressed with this variety.
Good to know about its production. Did you grow only one plant or multiples of this variety ( curious if it might have just been one great plant) ?. Might have to consider trying it next year. Our weather is very different from yours though so who knows what it would do here. It is a very nice looking tomato though.
I have two plants in very large containers (about 25 gal), and have picked at least 100 fruits between the two of them. They both seem to be about equally productive.
