CLOSED: HAVE: Daylilies - These Must Go. I Need the Space!

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

In a couple of weeks, I should be able to get back out in my gardens and do some digging. While recouping from surgery, I've been touring my gardens and making note of the daylilies I wish to cull to make room for bolder, brighter, newer daylilies I've acquired.

I am only interested in trading for other named daylilies I don't have or non-plant items I can use. My gardens are pretty full so I'm kind of picky. I really prefer non-plant items, like gardening books, dvds (romance, psychological thrillers, comedy), Roundup, Preen, any practical thing I can use in my house or garden.

If you live close enough for an in person trade, I'd trade quite a few plants for a good wheelbarrow or cart. I am also looking for bamboo poles or anything I can make a trellis out of.

Here are some of the daylilies I'll have for trade. But remember, I won't be able to do any digging for another couple of weeks--doctor's orders.

For the experienced daylily collector, these are probably nothing special. But if you're just starting out with daylilies, or just want pretty flowers, these are much better in person. But with 500 in my collection now and limited space, I've gotta get picky and cull out a few.

Each trade will be two or more fans. Two fans would be worth one DVD or two fans of another daylily.

Daylilies will be trimmed back (most have already bloomed for me this year. And those are this year's pics above). They'll be shipped dry, bareroot, by priority mail.

Anyone interested?

markleysburg, PA(Zone 5a)

Nancy I would be interested in your daylily. I have lots of books- good thrillers. What authors are you interested in or can I send you a list of what I might have fore trade Shirley

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Shirley, the only books I read currently are gardening books. In DVDs, I like some thrillers. Sorry for the confusion.

Is your tall gold one a species, or is it possibly Hyperion?

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

It's not hyperion. Hyperion isn't as tall and it's yellow, not gold, like mine. Mine had a name when I got it, but the tag disappeared.

Hey NancyAnn,
Do you have the garden bay books A-Z of garden flowers and A-Z of garden Flowers?
Winnie

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Winnie I don't have that one and haven't been able to look it up. Can you give me a link to a site with some info on it.

NancyAnn

Celina, TN(Zone 6b)

NancyAnn,
It's two books. My daughter got them for me a few months back. They each have over a thousand pages and weigh close to ten pounds together and they're paperbacks. Sending a pic will try and find a link later

If we can work out a trade, I'd be interested in 'Little Wart', 'Jungle Princess', the dark mauve, and the red.

I'll take a look at my book shelves and see what I've got that you might like.

Can I interest you in African Violets? I've got a bunch of different named ones, including trailers, miniatures, girl-leaf, etc. Even after sending out spring trade boxes there are a fair number of nice plantlets left. I don't propagate many noids (No Official ID) any more, but one of my favorites is this one that I call "Big Blue." It seems to be exceptionally tough, gets large, blooms constantly, and likes a self-watering pot, so it's good even for people who think they can't grow AVs.

hi Nancy Ann..yep you are picky...he he...glad your surgery went well..

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Hi Critterologist, I am afraid I no longer do houseplants or tropicals. I'm a lazy gardener and I have to rely on Mother Nature to take care of things. And for some reason, she doesn't take care of the house plants for me, so before I know it, they're dead.

I would be interested in some garden books possibly. Dmail me a list of what you have and let's see what we can do. OK?

Hi Bob, I'm not out of the woods yet. I have a checkup tomorrow to see if the surgery corrected the problem. If not, the next step may be to remove the kidney completely. I'm still not feeling well. But perhaps it's a reaction to the newest antibiotic the doc has me on. Most of the pain is gone and that's a HUGE relief. You know, Jackie contacted me and it was so good to hear from her. She sent pics of the kids and they've grown so much. They're so adorable!

I'll see if anything on my garden bookshelf needs a new home.... guess you're not interested in non-gardening books?

Or... could I interest you in herbs or mints? I've got about a dozen different mints that I've started layering in their pots, including some "fancy" Jim Westerfield hybrids and my favorite 'Kentucky Colonel' spearmint. I've also got several different creeping thymes, and some wonderful Greek oregano. I also have scented geraniums... I think 'Cocoa Mint Rose' and 'Attar of Roses' are the ones I currently have ready to go, but I have several others that I can start for you. Most of my perennials that are available to share are fairly common ones that you probably either already have or have decided not to include in your garden (magenta rose campion, 'Early Sunrise' coreopsis, 'Honey Bee Blue/White' agastache)... it will be another couple of years before my new DLs are ready to divide.

Hoping tomorrow's checkup goes well and that all the medical concerns will soon be behind you.

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Critterologist, maybe later I could trade for some of your mints and herbs for my herb garden. Right now, I have about 300 or so plants in pots that I must get planted this year. So I'm trying really hard not to bring in too many more plants until I get these in the ground. And to do that, I have to move out other plants. As for books, I don't usually have time for reading except when I'm at the doc's offices. So I usually carry a garden book. It's easy to pick up and just begin anywhere.

So maybe later in the season I could trade for some of your mints, if I get all these other plants planted in time. OK?

NancyAnn

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I know just what you mean... My DH has started looking at the flats remaining on the deck and asking when I'm going to plant them out! I don't think he realizes that the plants keep changing as I plant out some and then pot up some more little starts, LOL.

That sounds fine.... the mints should be more abundant later in the season, and that'll give me a chance to layer some larger clumps of the thymes for you. I am guessing daylilies can be dug/shipped any time, so just LMK when it's convenient for you to send and when you're ready to receive. This will be fun!

Greenfield, IN(Zone 5a)

Hi NancyAnn,

DH and I started sorting the DVDs. WOW-so many
We have nearly as many DVDs as you have named llilies!

WE put togather a surprise package of 10 psychological thrillers
Trade our extras for yours?

I love all types of lilies.

Let me know if we have a trade. You can enjoy the movies while you recoperate. No hurry to send the plants.

Rachel and Pierre~

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Hi Rachel, I think I'll pass on the DVDs for now. I have so many already, and I now have doctor's approval to get back in the garden. So it will be winter before I lay around and watch a movie again. Thanks anyway. Maybe later.

NancyAnn,

Would you consider gift cards to places like Walmart or Lowes, HD where you could make your purchases of Preen - whichever. I did this on another trade and it worked well. The receiver can make their own selection and the shipping costs can be devoted to the plant transfer?

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Gift cards are great! It saves the shipping costs and I shop at Lowes and Walmart all the time. Why don't you email me what you'd like and we'll work out the details. There are so many things I can use that might be too big or heavy to ship. Thanks for the idea, Swoznick!

I now have permission from the doc to begin some light digging, so when my out of town guests leave, I'll be doing some digging next week. I may add to the list above. So check back.

Hi Nancy Ann,
I don't know if you're into cacti or succulents. I have a couple of nice books I no longer need since I am getting out of them. The gift card would work too. I have an area between the sidewalk and street about 3ft wide by 40 ft long. I am trying to do away with the grass/weeds in that area and would like to fill it with evergreen type daylily's. Color not important. The more the merrier.

For personal reasons, I'm no longer trading here. My membership expires soon and I won't be renewing. Please don't anyone renew for me. My reasons for not renewing are not financial.

Thanks for all the wonderful trades.

Yikes! I'm sorry to hear that. I guess I won't be layering herbs for you, then.... or if you still want to have the option of trading later on, Dmail me for my regular email address.

I've always enjoyed your posts. You'll be missed. Hope your recovery goes smoothly & you enjoy your summer in the garden!

Pasco, WA(Zone 6b)

Don't mean to intrude on your personal space, but I am shocked to hear you won't be renewing your subscription here. I don't know you well, but have seen many of your posts and photos and have really enjoyed them! It seems you are a very regular contributor here. I am sorry you're leaving.

Hi NancyAnn,
Hope your recovery goes well and some day you'll join us again. We'll miss you.

Bossier City, LA(Zone 8b)

The reason might be gift cards are seen as cash, and website rules are no one can make a profit from membership here. Others may want to think twice before offering plants for gift cards/ cash.

Poland, ME

I just participated in one of your co-ops and am sad to see you leave. You will be missed.

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Actually, my leaving has nothing to do with this thread or anyone in it. So Swoznick, please don't think it has anything to do with you. I just have other things to concentrate on now and won't have time to be here. Y'all are welcome to privately email me anytime you'd like. I've enjoyed meeting and trading with all you fine folks.

NancyAnn
