The grazing meeting went well yesterday. It's subject was the Dairy Farm business Summary, which everyone involved had filled out. It is a form used to gauge the financial health of your farm, and point out areas where you can improve the business. We come out looking pretty good, our debt is zero right now and our imputs are pretty low because we are a grass herd. I know, you probably get sick of hearing about the grass, but that's what makes us so profitable. And isn't that what cows are supposed to eat??? I actually missed a good part of the meeting as our friends brought their 5 year old and she and I had to pick flowers and play with the puppies and walk on the rocks around the rock gardens. It was better that way - when I spend too much time listening to numbers, especially those with dollar signs in front of them or percentage marks after them, I begin to feel a bit ill.

The weather did what I expected, after all the finances, Stan led everybody out for a pasture walk and as soon as we got as far from the barn as we were going, the heavens let loose with a nice little shower. We retired to the barn and the wives who were along played with puppies while the guys inspected the curtains and mattresses and such.

The weather has decided that it was entirely too mild this past week and we are to have a high in the upper 50s today and not get back to the 70s until mid week. We are having a work day with the "old" grandkids, Jessie is going to help me in the gardens and Tom is going to help his grandfather harvest rocks on the ground that he has plowed and fit to seed. At least we won't get overheated.

I think the rest of the time between now and when we head for Kentucky, I'll be finising quilt and some little dresses. I saved some patterns that I had for our girls, classic little dresses and pinafores, and I just got a new use for the! It should be a fun week of sewing and gardening and then the trip down.
