Me and my hen (Barred Rock)

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

First of all.. Sorry this picture is blurry. Thanks to my DD who took pic.. anyway.. I know I haven't been around here that much. Been busying.

So far I still have two barred rock hen plus two baby chicks that friend want to rid of due not know how to take care of chicks. Heard about what happened to my 9 chickens that got killed last early spring. They brought us cute two chicks which I don't know what breed they are. I think they are mixed. I will take picture and post here. I put them in cage and put in the pen with two hens. I know they should not be mix cause the hen would kill the younger. More safety to be keep them in the cage for a while.

The hen I held is one year old. I still want to order some more chicks later when the time is right. Righ tnow I have bunch things to do plus I will have surgery coming tuesday and I won't be able to do the work in garden.. feed chicken and more for few weeks or a month. :o(

Small world! I worked in New Iberia back in '79...seems like a million years ago. Remember that camellia nursery on 182 - between Cade and New Iberia? I was a member of Dave's when they first started but then life got in the way but now I'm back.

Nice picture, Mini! Both you and your hen are quite attractive ladies! Those sunflowers are mammoth! Wish I could grow sunflowers like that. I haven't even tried lately. They never seemed to do well for me. Good luck with your surgery, and take it easy for all the time you need to. BAM

What a great picture. Friday I was looking at some Barred Rock full grown hens for sale. They were so beautiful! Yours looks very special and happy. Best of luck over the next few weeks. It will go by fast, and you will be back in the garden quickly.
