Hi Gang. I received this plant last fall (Jerodsmom, was it you that sent it?) and it was in a batch of noid's that were sent to me. It's blooming now and smells delicious!
leaves are roughly 3-5 inches long and very thick and leathery. Bloom are under 1/2 inch wide with the cluster about 2 inches across.
I'd love it if someone can help to ID it now that it's blooming.
Here is a shot of the blossoms.
Hoya and Dischidia ID help please.
Here's the Dischidia. It's labeled Dischidia pectinata, however, I can't find any info about it. So any help would be super!
No blooms yet. and it is very delicate. the leaves are tender and soft (not peltate) and it it feels somewhat fragile.
So I guess my question is, is it labeled correctly and does anyone have any info on growing it. I put down cuttings just in case. I purchased it at the SFO arboretum sale last month.
Nice plants!
Don't know about the hoya....I'll leave that to those better at ID'ing those...but I think the Dischidia is pectinoides...if you're growing it outside, watch for ants, (I guess you wouldn't have to worry about them if you don't bring it indoors) and don't let it get mealybugs....they're also drawn to the 'pouches' and can bring on the demise of the plant!
I don't knwo the id of your hoya either I am new to them. I love your Dischidia pectinata. Where did you find that beauty? I would love to get one.
Thanks,
Patti
Thanks Nan and Patti, I found it for sale at the big spring plant sale at Strybing Arboretum in San Francisco.
Patti, do you know if it's id'ed correctly? Are you familiar with them?
I have two dischidia ,but neither are like yours. Carol may know the name of it. Good Luck.
Patti
Ps : Sorry I couldn't help you.

My guess would be Hoya incrassata but then there are supposedly several clones of it... Nice shots!
Dischidia pectenoides would be the correct name.

Thanks Christina! I looked at your website http://christa-a.dk/hoya/arter/dansk/crassicaulis.htm and would concur, the buds looked the same before they opened too! Boy my leaves sure don't look healthy like yours! Mine aren't shiny at all. But she seems to be happy.
Thanks again gang!
That is not my website. This is mine: www.myhoyas.com
Christina
Silly me, sorry about that.
Your hoya could be H. incrassata or could be one of the H. finlaysonii X H. incrassata hybrids running around...without a name.
I have your dischidia as D. vidallii altho I know it is also called D. pectinoides (NOT pectinata). I learned to grow mine very dry...it rots with damp or moist soil.
carol
Hmm....now I've read that D. vidalii has white blooms, and pectinoides has red blooms.
Mine is pectinoides, and has the red blooms.
???
Really? My D. vidallii had red blooms...but I think it goes by a couple (both) of names. Don't know which one is correct.....
Carol
Me neither!
I'm so glad it's not my job to keep these durned plant names straight! lol!
gee whiz, I was hoping you gals would set me straight! Shoot.
So is there actually a d. pectinata or is that just someone's really bad way of spelling d. pectinoides?
Carol, all the hoya you sent me are doing fabulously. Should I repot this dischidia into the same type of soil blend? It seems to be working here. Especially if I don't over water. ( basically repotted all that you sent me into a very similar mix -they all went into those 5" white hanging planters and so far so good. )
Edited to add - but thank you so much for commenting on the hoya and for the help you have given me!! =)

I don't believe D. pectinata exists....it's kinda like the telephone game....someone messed up the name!
That probably explains why I couldn't find it when I googled it LOL. there are plants with that species name in them, but no dischidias.
Based on my photos and description, would you concur that it at least looks like your d. pectinoides?
Yup..it is the green variety of mine Laurie!
The one I have in the seashell is the variegated variety :)
She is simply STUNNING :) Nice find girl!
Hey girlie! Nice to see you over here. do you have a photo of this one? (did I miss this post elsewhere?)
It's a pretty cool find especially since it was only about $8 (and of course the hoya was free!)
oh wait, are you talking about the hoya or the dischidia? Duh, must have missed your post.
Dischidia :)
Hehe and yup hoya is another little fascination so I am to be found here also :)
That first one wouldn't be a cv. Jennifer would it?
Ann
Hi Laurie,
Nice to see you popping in. Your hoya looks great. And what a nice dischidia.
Thanks Tami. I often feel like a hoya failure since mine are slow to grow, I've only ever seen two of them bloom (and I must confess, that one, hoya ds-70 formerly tsengii? I think is it's name came to me via eBay already budded! ) Last count, I had about 20-23 of them. I've lost a few here and there. But still haven't given up. Seems like the ones I forget the most do the best.
But at least I've stopped killing them, well almost. I did (almost) lose my big beauty of a hoya (Crimson Queen?) and it was so beautiful (see the photo from last year attached) Now I'm down to about three vines hanging down. Oh well. It was good while it lasted.
I may try moving some back out side for the summer. I had one (h. carnosa?) that I had outside all summer and it's put on about a foot of growth lately. So I'm thinking it might be happy again with some dappled light.
Still not sure how to treat the dischidia. I've been basically ignoring it (in terms of water but it's right by the entrance to my playhouse (office) so I see it each day and thank it for not croaking on me! LOL.
Anyway, Carol send me some real beauties and of course I have some from you and Jerodsmom too. Still think h. polynura and h. clemensiorum are my top two favorites that I have. And I did just bring home a rooted cutting of h. pauciflora from the arboretum where I am volunteering now. (I do the gesneriad, begonia and now hoya propagation for them - I was just asked to work with the Hoya on Wednesday since I showed some interest. We don't have anything too exciting that I can see but once I get the gesneriads more settled and into a routine, I'll start poking around here for more hoya info!)
Of course my favorite will probably change when this REALLY sweet girl I know sends me a rooted cutting of h. multiflora that she's rooting for me! (wink wink -you know who you are!)
Oh one more thing and I'll quit rambling here folks, do the flowers normally close up at night (sorry for what is probably a very stupid question)
I haven't seen enough florets to know.
thanks for having me over for a visit here, I don't stop by and see you folks enough!
Begonia~
...about your first picture ~~ I ain't no expert but the flowers sure look alot like the aff. Finlaysonii of mine that just bloomed (I posted a picture, take a looksee)................AND............it was JerodsMom that gave it to ME, too! Possibly a coincidence but me thinkest our plants may be one and the same. Does it smell like Lilac to you?
( I don't know where JerodsMom went off to, never see her out here anymore. She was my very first "Hoya Angel" and she shared some of her hoyas with me. Patricia, if you're out here....we miss you!)
Betsy
