Adopted a sickly looking petite tabby kitten last Feb, already had a beautiful sleek black male cat who'd been very healthy for 2 years. She started sneezing up a storm soon after being with us...took her to the vet's. Diagnosis: cat cold. He said she will likely be suseptible to getting them throughout her life and the saddest part is it is easily transferred to other cats. So my male cat started his symtoms as well. After several vet trips last year for shots and meds for this they cleared up after a couple weeks.
My little tabby (still petite for her age) is now sneezing again! I will have to take her first thing in the morning to the vet once I get off work at 6am....last year he put her on something called Clavamox. He gave both cats 2 shots: Flocillin and Pred Injection. Each time she gets this cold it costs about $200 to fix so I am concerned that there is nothing but these annual visits to expect and nothing more I can do for prevention instead of just treatment if it happens?
I'd always had perfectly healthy cats before this and will not get another until both pass as they have been exposed to this cat cold. Has anyone else ever gotten a young kitten in poor health or do you have suggestions on prevention of any kind?
I'd appreciate any input you may have on this.
