Mixing Breeds

I have a Barred Plymouth Rock hen that I got last fall just before she started laying. This spring I got 3 White Silkies - 2 hens, 1 rooster, just as they started laying. I've hatched out some of the eggs in an incubator and let them hatch some out 'naturally'. The BPR hen continues to lay an egg pretty well every day, but the silkie rooster won't go any where near her - she is a little 'crankie' with him. Any chance that might get better?

I also have Barred Rock hens, and they are very self confident, and they "throw their weight around". For a long time, they had no respect for the Polish Crested rooster. They would not let him mate with them. I'm not sure if he ever successfully mated with the Barred Rock hens (he's gone now, anyway).

I'm thinking the Silkie rooster might be too small for the BR hen....she probably thinks he's not man enough for her, LOL.

What's the best way to 'introduce' a rooster? I guess it will have to be a 'big' enough rooster? I'm 'growing' a Columbian Rock X Red rooster along with a couple of girls. They're about 6 weeks old now and being kept in a seperate area along side the others. Hopefully he'll be able to convince her.

Have you tried www.the-coop.org "the classroom" forum? They have a lot of threads about introducing roosters, and such. It's a great place to ask questions like these.
