So pretty! How come you don't have weeds on your paths? What's the secret?

Gwen, the trick to no weeds is to take the photo one week after you smashed down the paths! LOL!!

...we'll see how it looks in another month after the sun has come out and the weeds (horsetail, in particular) have had time to poke their heads up through the flattened soil. ;-)

How do you smash down the paths?

Gwen

Sumner, WA(Zone 8a)

This might be a bit unconventional, but with my butt!

LOL!!

To be precise...
1 - I dug the paths out, then put the extra dirt into the beds.
2 - I raked the paths to be roughly level. (Though there are some bumps!)
3 - Then I set down a foam knee pad and sat on it, cross-legged. Worked in the bed I was facing: leveling the soil, planting, and weeding.
4 - Repeated #3 going the opposite direction (facing opposite beds).

The paths are just wide enough for my behind/back and legs.

(I sit in the paths while planting and weeding.)

I also walk the paths regularly, while wearing my MuckBoots, in an effort to keep the paths compressed.

If you look at the strawberry picture, there is an unfinished/unflattened path in front of it. Still some loose soil to smush down. I haven't finished planting the bed opposite the strawberries, thus, not fully butt-mushed. LOL!

We didn't mean to make you the BUTT of our jokes Tiff :-)

Keep hold of those cheeks, Gwen. You know what Captain Safety says "It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye."

BTW, did anyone read the news story about the owner of a Chihuahua that beat the breeder over the head with ..... well, I won't spoil the ENDing ... as it were ....

Sumner, WA(Zone 8a)

Gwen, Your cheeks are hurting? Maybe you should try sitting on one of those foam pads so they don't hurt so bad. LOL!

Hehe. Oh the things you can do with your bottom in the garden! ;-)

Sumner, WA(Zone 8a)

I just had to post a photo of what 3 weeks of watering and sun, without weeding can do to a lovely garden path. LOL!!

But just look at the growth on that lettuce. MMMMMMMMMM salad. :-)

Oh, I need to get out and weed! It's taking over!

Actually, I have been out and weeded bits and pieces here and there. Trying to get in at *least* 20 minutes of weeding every day, but that's spread between the front and back...thus, the veggie garden has suffered.
