I got this plant on a river bank and it was growing in clay/rock. It grows by runners and spreads to about a 25' circle. It is blessed with white flowers and a bamboo like stalk. The bloom is late June and when the first frost occurs it readily loses its leaves and leaves a dry bamboo like stalk. It has a height of 10 to 12' and is quite beautiful.
What is this Canadian bamboo?
Dunno what it is caled but in Ontario (Guelph) it is classed as invasive -

This is a very invasive exotic weed http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/32028/index.html

Oh, stop. Your killin me. Digd, we're just teasing. I've only been putting pics in my journal, but I haven't had any problem posting them.
It is on a clay hill I Planted it on and I can cut the hill away with my bobcat and haul away. I needed a new bed to develope next year any way.
Good attitude Steve. A new bed always makes it worth while.
Soferdig,
that sounds to me rather like rootlets being spread all over your garden.

Maybe treat it with RoundUp and then cover it with weighted thick plastic for the rest of the summer before you take your bobcat to it Steve. I have a feeling that plant will rise up and make itself at home in its' new location (ie. where ever you decide to dump the bobcat's load).
There are a number of suggestions for eradicating it at the bottom of the link zarcanat posted.
I have a big hole next to it where the soil came from so I will dig up rootlets and bury in hole and let die and dry all summer. I hate to kill it but father knows best. Then I will bury it 8' deep. And put a curse on it, then hit it with a smart bomb. Then pour gasoline in the hole and burn it. Then I will capture some ground squirrels and let them dig in the hole..........
Off to plant in the Guerrilla Garden, laughing all the way.

oh Steve the friend i said used a water bed pladder to cover hers .buried it under mulch for a hole year ,the next spring she took it up and planted hosta there guess what it came back, and spread in her front lawn, but im sure theres something you could use to kill the runners oh man im glad im not in your shoes,or if you like the plant let it grow it is a pretty looking plant though
Oh I'll get it gone. It is all by itself on a clay mound with nothing important around it. Hence a new bed. The roots don't go very deep and any emerging rootlets will be readily removed.
I can only thank you Digging dirt for the warning. I have dug, pulled, rototilled weekly in the extreme heat, and can only say that this is a tough one. I am winning no regrowth since July 5th rototilling. Oh Brush-be gone, Roundup don't even phase it.
no prob steve glad to help.Oh i hope you have it all.
I havent been on much i have been so darn busy with my garden and my local garden club .and being a judge in a couple garden contest man thats a hoot .Steve hows your garden doing mine is good its been wet here most of the summer and when we do get sun oh uts so hot the plants love it.
We just got our hot last week and both my wife and I are out of town. I have not had much trouble for the same reason. Lots of rain this early summer. And we get lots of thunderstorm dumps at our location cause they build west of us and dump over our property. My garden is the best I have ever seen it. The perfect summer. Well at least until I came up to Alaska. My DW is going home tomorrow and will give me a full report. Boy I would never know how to judge (with objectivity) any plants that others have grown. Maybe the pumpkins and vegetables. But I would have to have some salad dressing.
ha,ha judging is fun and you are right some of the gardens i saw were out of this world and hard to judge.what in the hedouble hockey sticks are you doing in Alaska.
man if i were to take a trip it wouldn't be north,we have had alot of thunder stormes this year as will and the amount of rain withit is alot.
tell you how weird our weather is yesterday i went to town 90km away left home it was raining cats and dogs and then sum,got in town and it was so hot you could smell the bottem of my sneakers burning when i steped out of the car.Now it's that way here at home today.
im so glad you have that bambo gone nasty stuff the friend i was telling you about in this tread is still trying to get all of what she has gone.
Keep a eye on yours its has away of comming back.
I work up here and play at home in Montana. I am sitting at the computer with a heater under the desk to keep me warm. I love it. The nice thing about cold is that you can choose the temp you want vs heat you have to live with it. My Mile a minute is only a few fragments remaining. It never left the clay mound so it was easy to eliminate (so far). Thanks to you.
