Hi all! I'm a pretty new member, and have been lurking and profiting big time from everyone's advice- and gotten into a lot of trouble with hibiscus envy along the way!
Now here's my dilemma- my daughter was accepted into this great exchange student program, going to Australia for the summer and the kids were left on their own to do fundraising- we're here in New Orleans, so this was very tough.
But we brainstormed and came up with the idea of hibiscus sales- people are rebuilding their yards, so it would be useful. The girls did very well, but now I've got about 25 left, and they're about to leave on their trip. I don't want to make any money- I just want to get them homes before the poor babies die. The plants were through Exotic Hibiscus, so they're nice and healthy- but getting cramped in their containers. I'd be very happy to send them out to whoever wants them, if they'll just pay shipping.
Is that okay, or is it against the rules to do that? If somebody lets me know, I'll be happy to post the various kinds, etc.
Thanks in advance!
Tess
Looking for guidance...don't know if this is kosher...
Tess You have d-mail!
Oooooooo, tell us what kinds you have; I'd be interested. Do you have any pictures?
I suspect many of us have had kids raising money for one school trip or another and we all understand where you are coming from. But Australia, now that sounds like some trip. Didn't they need a chaperone, I would have volunteered. LOL
Yeah, I know- I've been trying to figure out how to convince them I'm a teen so I can go to Australia too! So far they've caught my every attempt to blend in, but I'm not ready to give in yet!
The trip is a great opportunity-only 40 kids from the Gulf Region were chosen, based on acedemics and behavior. It's nice to know that although your teen is a beast at home, she knows how to behave in public! :)
Anyway, I didn't list all the varieties before because I wasn't sure if this was okay. No, sorry, I don't have pics of them blooming, because they're all basically babies.
But here's a pic of my cat standing guard over the little guys:
Sorry I don't have individual photos, but they're all from Exotic Hibiscus, so you can go there to see pics of the actual blooms.
Kiss N Tell- 3
#877- 4
Smokey Mountain -1
Nova Explosion- 3
Sun Showers-1
Chocolate High-1
Irish Eyes-1
Seminole Pink-5
#346-3
Holly's Pride-2
Maple Leaf Hibiscus-2
Soft Shoulders-1
Pink Frost-3
Gator Pride-1
All of these are pretty healthy, but getting very grumpy about their little tiny pots. There are some real beauties in the bunch!
And one more...here's my problem child. It's a Gator Pride that somehow fell sideways and wasn't getting enough water. I've repotted it and stripped the leaves off to help it recover. I think it'll be fine, tho, and I'm happy to ship it off to a loving home for some TLC!

Tess, I would be interested in Chocolate High and Irish Eyes.
Thanks
I'd love Sun Showers
Holly's Pride
Pink Frost
Nova Explosion.
Thanks, let me know how you want us to pay you for the postage.
alice
The easiest way would be for you to send me your physical address along with the plants you'd like, and I can get them together & weighed, then send you a paypal invoice for USPS priority shipping.
If you don't have a PayPal account, it's really easy (and free!) to set up- but if you're not comfortable with that system, let me know and we'll see what we can work out. If you pay with paypal, tho, I can get them out the same day- today even! :)
Hi Tess,
I'm sending you a dmail with my address. I have paypal so no problems there.
I'd like Nova Explosions and Holly's Pride if they are still available.
Thanks,
Lora B.
dmail coming your way...
Dmailing you!!!
Tess,
I am very interested, but it sounds like you're getting good feedback, so if you could let me know what's left I am willing to adopt some of whom are not yet called-for!! Well, that last sentence isn't going to win any prizes for grammar I'm afraid, but I think you know what I mean...
Thanks, and good luck ...Polly
Thanks everybody- I've been jumping with all this! And of course, halfway through, my office went into overdrive. As soon as work calms down, I'll get a tally out of what's left and update the post!
Hi - Polly again...
Sign me up for Gator's Pride if still available, and a couple others to compliment if possible.
Muchos Gracias!

Sorry everybody, they're all gone. I've got to get in touch with the last few people and let them know. I'm sorry, things are just a little nuts right now- tomorrow is my daughter's school's graduation, and she leaves on Monday for Australia on top of everything else, so I'm kind of a drooling idiot at this point!
but on the plus side, I'll be a drooling idiot in a very quiet house by Monday afternoon! :)
I'll get back to everyone if not by the end of the night then first thing in the morning.
Thanks!
Tess
Tess,
I got the package today and my 2 new babies are already in their home.
THanks so much!!
Lora
Great! How'd they make the trip?
They did fine, it seems. Some of the dirt had fallen out of the pot but nothing serious. I was able to plant them right away but since we've had nothing but rain for weeks now, I'm thinking they would prefer to be back in N.O. :-)
Lora
Waaaaaaaaaa, I am so envious. The hibbies did not arrive yet and we have not had rain in 6 weeks. Not fair,
not fair......LOL
They arrived safely today. Yaaaaaayyyyy. They looked pretty good in spite of having to sit in our PO all weekend. We have a new mail delivery lady and I am not sure how to handle it but she seems to be holding our mail until she is ready to deliver it.
Anyway they are enjoying a soak in Superthrive and are perking right up.
And about my wish for rain - well, Alberto will come to my assistance there I am sure.
Thanks again Tess. alice
Tess, if you have any deals fall through, please let me know. I'd love a Gator's Pride. Thanks, julie
Tess I got my Hibiscus in the mail today already have it planted and gave it a good drink of water. It looks great it was just a little thirsty that's all. I had no ideal it was going to be so big. Thank you so much for it.
Oh yes thanks for the beads.
Linda
Tess,
Thank for my hibiscus babies. I promise not to send them to their grave. I will post update pictures after they are planted.
Marie
Yes thank you for the beads they have already been claimed by my kids!!!
lol...well, I'm glad you got your plants, but I'd forgotten about the beads. We throw them in with all packages that we ship from my business, and when I asked my assistant to give me a hand with the boxes, we reverted to habit and in they went.
For anyone that didn't get beads, my apologies, I just need someone to keep my head on straight- if you want 'em and didn't get 'em, or just want more, let me know! :)
A pic from a couple of years ago of my daughter showing off some of her prizes, looking rather impish...one of my favs.
That is one of the cutest pics ever! Your daughter is so cute!
I did not recieve ant beads ;o(. But it is ok. Thanks so much for the 2 hibiscus. They look great. Alot bigger than I thought.
If you ever send another box this way I would love some beads for my DGDs. They are 51/2 and 31/2. They love to dress up.
Your daughter is beautiful.
Thank you again.
Blessings,
Sandy ^8^
Your little girl is adorable! She does look impish, I know you have fun with her.
I have a 5 yr. old GD and I do not get to see her often as they live 500 miles away. We have a goodie box here for searcys (South Carolinian for lagniappes) that we collect for her and we either send her a surprise package or bring something special to her when we do see her. Your beads went into the box and I know they will be a huge hit with her. She loves stuff like that. *Thank You*
I sent my DIL your card so she will know where to order fun stuff for their next Mardi Gras party.
