Cuttings tossed in compost survived the winter- GROWING

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

At the end of the season I have SO much to compost that my little compost area can't handle it. SO I drag everything and this includes many brugs down the street to a little wooded area. Today I had a rather large load and went down the street to my little dump area. Low and behold I have a field of brugs that grew from cuttings I dumped last fall. I'm shocked that they survived the winter and managed to GROW. Too bad it's all shade there now I'd love to see what they would look like blooming. Hardy little suckers....

It is amazing. I have had the same situation here. I have DH drag plants I don't want or ones I think are gone to a little wooded area beside the house. Sure enough things start growing and plants that should even make it over our winter does. Of course I want to bring some of the stuff back out and I was sniped at by DH. He said I didn't want it and he had to drag it off so it's his now. He calls it his garden and checks it often to see what's there.

Fantastic! Can you believe the trouble some people have trying to root and grow them? Brugs must thrive on neglect!

I have had a similar experience. I thought one was dead. Tossed it into the woods behind the house last fall. Went to drag some limbs from a storm to my so called compost pile. There it was in all its glory!! So I grabbed it and back into a pot it went. LOL!!!

A new winter-over, lay the brug down in the woods and cover with "to be compost STUFF". Too funny!!!

See they are like weeds. LOL. They have such a survival instinct. Gee Kristi it gets so cold where you are too. I am impressed.

I have to agree that the ones that get less care always survive for me. The ones that I give so much attention and care to and don't want anything to happen to always seem to die. I still have not got it though my thick head that I have never lost one to being too dry but many have passed on because of my watering. . . especially when they were not rootbound.

Well I'll be....
Some of us can get them to grow back from the ground the following year!
I think I will put a bunch in my compost pile this fall.
