Goodmorning, Guys. Thought you might like to see Ramblin Midget. The bloom color is just a touch lighter than Blue Boy and the bell shaped blooms open wide. The pink variegation is on the older leaves but the new growth variegation is more yellow. I have been watching the blooms for almost three weeks. They were so tiny to begin with and grew very slowly. I had no idea that they would raise their heads so high about the folage. Isn't she sweet?
Ramblin Midget
beauty nanna! i love the pink on the older leaves and i love the bell shaped buds!
kelly : )
Oh my goodness Nanna you Ramblin's Midget has trippled in size ! And your flower color is so vivid !
I have a couple little ones not growing as fast as yours. Their blooming though. I don't know what your doing but your sure doing it great ! Every plant you show us has grown and is blooming :))
I think you have nothing to worry about.
Thanks, Allison. I really think I have discovered my problem. The information on Rob's site about all energy going to the blooms and the centers being small after a heavy blooming really hit home. I want to adjust the use of fertilizer so my plants bloom well but don't over bloom to the point that energy is taken from the follage.
Oh yes I have so many plants like you that bloom crazy non-stop for months where you can't even see the foliage. No light and energy can get to the center.
Also Rob says there are certain varieties where the center can disapear even or get small. They also like less light. One type that does this is yellow flowering Av's which I learned years ago. I've grown Golden Threads on and off past year one of the first plants I had. It like end of tube or natural light or you can lost the center. Put it back into natural light the center grow back real night. Lot's of my Russians are like this.
" center growth has disappeared "

Vibrant color! I hope my plants do as well.
Just lovely, Nanna! This must be another E. Champion, right? I do love that varigation. I'm starting to understand the difference between growing AVs and growing them well. Learning about differences in light, watering, feeding for one's individual plants. What is that saying, "Takes a short time to learn, but a lifetime to master."
Thanks, Nanna!!
Yes it is E. Champion. Allison introduced me to her plants. She has given me several including vintage plants that are also doing well and just about to bloom. I think growing av's is a lifetime work. At first I though lots of blooms was the way to go. But I found out that neglects the total plant. If you want a healthy plant you need to look at everything. The bloom is only one part of the plant.
So right Nanna
I also read Nanna a hot temp home can stunt growth, crown problems too..
Isn't it amazing a cold home can do the same thing.
Yes I just got them all happy from the winter temps and it got warm more feeding/watering and more changes with enviroments change.
Also Root rot/crown rot from too much water, and alos from not enough. AV's want the correct everthing from room tempt. on :))
Nanna that one is gorgeous too! Another one for my ever growing wish list!
I don't think there will ever be an end to "the list"
Nanna you are so right! My mom is quilter and many of them have bumper stickers that say "She who dies with the most fabric wins!" a bit morbid, but wonder if we need our own bumper stickers!
April I might just have one to drop in your box ! Nanna's was so dinky and small when I sent it to her.
It;s a Semi-miniature
Allison I would never say no! It's so pretty.
I like the idea of a bumper sticker
April I fount one for you ! It's blooming now not sure if it will be when I ever get yur ever growing box together .lol
Bumper stickers do I put mine on my wheel chair !
I'm trying to get rid of all my plants. lol
Bumper sticker on a wheelchair -- why not?
