Have you ever heard of a dog with silky slippers? Brownie's fur grows out from between her paw toes and covers the pads on them very quickly. We have hardwood floors throughout the house and on the stairs, so she gets quite "slippery" often...A careful trimming of the fur on her feet solves this problem every time.
Here's a picture of her freshly trimmed paw...she really hates when I do it. But then she feels great. I have a special scissors for it and am sooooooo careful. I'd rather cut my own hand than her paw so I protect her pads with my fingers while cutting...so far neither of us has been accidently hurt :-)
Brownie's a really good dog and lays almost perfectly still each time I do it, all the while saying, "Gooooooood dog! Brownie's such a gooooood dog!" This enthusiatic mantra seems to calm and comfort her, OR else she's ruminating on what a human idiot I sound like...She's 11-1/2 years old now and doing great. She adopted me when I visited the Animal Rescue League of Boston when she was 4 months old...I'm VERY happy that she did!
