This started out floppy and is almost corrected now after 3 years.

I thought this was supposed to be a dense rounded shrub. I got the plant from Springhill. There are four branches from each plant which now lie on the ground. It has beautiful blooms but wasn't what I expected. Anything I can do to make this grow into that dense rounded shrub I thought it would be?

Hey -that's how mine started out. In it's second year it started to get new shoots that grew upright, and as those grew up I would remove a floppy branch. It seems to have worked. Over a 3 year period or so.

I hope that mine look that good in 3 years! I got a bunch of cuttings from my cousin. Some of them don't look so good, but somehave new leaves and buds on them. Will I need to mulch them this winter? Idon't even know how to pronounce it. ~~yep, just gettin' started on something new.

bph,

Does this mean you do NOT recommend buying the thing from SpringHill?

This is a very, GORGEOUS specimen, Al. I have a 1st year plant that is still in its pot. Your photo has given me new respect for this awesome plant. Now I'm going to find mine a good permanent spot in the garden before next summer.

Thanks, it's almost to the form I want. I didn't realize it was so uncommon when I bought it.
$5 for a gallon pot.

Where did you get yours, Al?

Carrie,
I got it at a local summertime(not nursery) seller. I got a lot of nice shrubs for that price the last few years. I have not seen Carnaval back recently though.

Spring Hill Nsry is selling them now. I have mixed luck with their plants - but they pleasantly replace any failures. Thanks Bigcityal, your picture just decided the perfect spot for my carnaval when it arrives.
