It was about a year old and had not flowered yet when she sent me the cuttings around mid 2004. It's been flowering for about 10 months now (since around August of last year). Oddly enough it flowered as single until the last 2-3 months. Now it's a double! .... who'd a thunk it? :)

Beautiful!!! Does she smell as good as she looks?

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

It looks great! How is Sue doing? I have thought about her quite a few times the past couple months.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I too, have wondered how Sue is??

She was a wonderful person and trader.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Yes she does smell beautiful Ms. Melanie and she will be one of the ones you can look for in your future box. You can help me trial her for another year or so as long as you don't throw gas on her and set her afire ... hee!. :)

Shelly, Sue is not on her puter much anymore. She has moved on to other things. We all miss her :)

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Ohhhh mmmmmmmmyyy ! *feeling faint*

I have a deep secret love for white brugs but this one is causing me to make it known.

So beautiful and flirty. Congrats to you and PS ( I miss her too )

Leander, TX(Zone 8b)

Wow that is gorgeous!!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sure looks good to me. Did it come from a double cross? I'm guessing not, the way you have described it. It's a pretty double and I'd bet Sue would be tickled to death about it.

I agree, Scoot. I miss her here and in emails. Was thinking about her just this morning.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

It's tagged as Rosamond x Ecuador Pink.
Flowered in the beginning as a single white with a hint of pink around the edge. The following flushes were single all white. This is the color of flowers I expected from this particular cross .... especially since every seedling I touch usually turns out to be white ... and single :). In a million years I would have never expected this to turn into a double after so many months. If the cross wasn't originally mislabled it is proof that we should not be so quick to throw seedlings away at first flower. ... shrugging shoulders cause I'm totally flabbergasted over the change of form no matter if the cross is properly id'd or not.

Thanks guys for liking it but Sue is the one that had the magic touch. She probably planned for it to be this way :) ... hee!

ummm..would it be un-PC to ask - what happened to Poppysue? Did she leave Dave's? Is she ill? Gee..I know I've been scarce around here but really do feel out of touch now...

Wow! That is a truely beautiful Brug! ;o)

Ohhhhhh!!! I can't wait!!

It is intresting just how long it can take for the maturation of colour and form to take. I recently discovered how iron deficiency starved a brug of colour and form, never dealt with iron deficiency before, lots of iron in the soil in Aus. I recently had a cutting bloom that was described to me as orange in colour, but bloomed pure white, so this will be interesting. I make my own compost and I guess because the new house , the garden and the plants have all come at the same time I probably have not let the compost mature enough, still a little heat left in it. I guess that would leave me a little nitrogen defficient, maybe?

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Glad you guys like her! :) I'm gonna cross her with Creamsickle and see if I can create a monster double triple quadruple that is so big it will take 2 people to carry one flower! ... ha!

Diane, Sue isn't sick or anything bad. She just isn't into gardening anymore.

Rita I don't pay much attention to iron and nitrogen etc. I probably should.
Mostly I just make sure they have good loamy soil mixed in with our sandy soil and if they are lucky I give them water and food occasionally lol! After quite a few years of growing brugs in TN and now in FL I haven't noticed alot of differences in flower color vs different soils and ferts. The time of year, hot vs cold definitely makes a difference in both color and size of the flowers. Very much like hibiscus. This is just my own personal experience.
I hope your brugs thrive for you!!! :)

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Vee,
keep me in mind If you get a quadruple monster!! I don't have one of those yet LOL!!! ;o)

Absolutely Caren :) I've already got the flatbed semi reserved lol!

She is just wonderful!! That Creamy cross just might do it, lol.
Congrats to you both, her shape with the white is absolutely gorgeous.

Diane, i wondered about Poppysue too. She sent me some seeds and everyone of them grew into seedlings but I've never seen her on the forums since then...

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks Jackie :) I've always adored Creamsickle since I first saw it at Susie's when she lived in TN. . I would cross everything with that it I could ... even cactus hee!

It's a beauty. I'm sure Sue would be very pleased.

Such a Beauty Vicki!
She has everything going for her.
Viewing the photos of the blooms she just has an action look about her. I would love to see this one in a flush with a slight wind blowing. Breath taking!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks guys :)
Kin dear I'll take a pic of the entire plant next time.
Maybe if you blow in her ear she will dance for you? ... hee! :)

LOL
I'm afraid I would ruin her appearance if I did that!!
That would be great.
:)

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Very pretty and I bet you were surprised when it doubled.

I love Creamsickle as you do and am now wondering if any good crosses have come from using it as a pollen doner or seed bearer. I tried pollinating mine a couple times last year with some great pollen but it did not take. I think it was probably too hot. It is such a huge beautiful bloom and I am wondering if it has been used in anyone's pollination program and what the results were.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Onion breath Kin? ... rofl! That would ruin any girls appearance for sure!

Frannie I think Creamsickle has been hybridized to death with real good results. It is just too soon to see most of them in flower yet. I'm getting ready to hybridize it to death too lol!

And yes I couldn't believe my eyes when Sue's seedling doubled. I planted the mother seedling at Mom's house. She called me to tell me it had flowered. Every time I visited her the flowers were the same form. One day I took a big cutting from a new shoot and brought it home. I was bending over to smell its first flowers, lifted her skirt to my nose and boy was I shocked at what I saw lol!. I called mom and said guess what! lol! She ran outside to check hers and she was thrilled to pieces to report that hers were double too! It was a happy day :)
