Some of my new (and old) babies

Edison, NJ(Zone 7a)

Well, I dug my camera out (finally), and thought I would share a few pictures of some of my new AV babies, and an older one, too.

This first one is of the bloom basket on the pink NoID I posted about recently. The leaves are still pretty small, but they have tripled in size in just the last week.

This is Aunt Georgia, purchased several weeks ago from Bluebird Greenhouse, and it just started blooming

This is a closeup of a bloom on my Barkhatnaia Fantaziia, also purchased from Bluebird.

Here's my little Cupid's Arrow. My local chapter of AVSA had a plant show and sale in early May, and I bought this one there. It was blooming a lot then, and hasn't shown any signs of stopping!

These are five of the AVs I just bought from Jack's Violets on eBay. I have bought twice from him (so far), and both times received beautiful, healthy, well-packaged plants.

P.S. The Ness' Satin Rose was a gift from Jack. So not only did I get free shipping, but I got another nice, healthy plant for free, too!

This is a large sucker I took from one of my Mom's old NoID AVs about a month ago. The original plant, which is at least 10 years old (probably way more) had two big suckers, and all three plants are doing well. This is the first of the three to bloom.

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing your pictures with us.

How do you put the names on the pictures like that Stephanie?

Here are two more from Jack's Violets - Rob's Pewter Bells and Rob's Antique Rose.

Antique Rose came as one plant, but as you can see, one half turned out to be a sucker that was as large as the original plant!

I love playing around with Paint Shop Pro, and used the text tool to add the text to my pictures.

Thats pretty cool.

Beautiful violets!

Yet another one from Jack's. This one is Watermelon Bay, and should be blooming nicely very soon. The plant is adorable, but the picture doesn't really do it justice.

Only a few more to go. I promise!

These are Harlequin, Snuggles Little Dreamer and Lyon's Spectacular.

Snuggles LD had a few broken leaves, two of which were nice and healthy, so I potted them up.

Lyon's Spectacular - all I can say is that I certainly got my money's worth. For $4.95, I got the main plant, plus three suckers with roots!

Okay, last one. Sorry, but it's not an AV. I stopped in at Home Depot the other morning on the way to work, and... well... look what jumped into my cart. A pretty begonia!

The last of the blooms have fallen off, but they were a pretty dark peachy-pink. The plant is in better shape now that I repotted it. The soil it was originally in was totally drenched!

Thanks for sharing all those GORGEOUS plants!

Sure makes me want to head right over to see what Jack is offering at the moment.... but I have a new bed to fill outside, so I'm trying to be "good" about new purchases for inside, not to mention that my "isolation" shelves are crammed with lovely plants from recent trades... Geez, when did I get so avaricious about AVs? LOL at myself.... Hi, my name is Jill, and I'm addicted to African Violets...

I'm glad you've got a few leaves down (me too!)... I think there will be a grand round of trading here this fall!

Hi, my name is Allison, and I'm addicted to African Violets...
Glad you have leaves down too ! We will be having a large Secret Swap trade this Fall my favorite type ! I love surprise boxes ! Also lot's of other trades.
This is the best time Spring on get your leaves down now for Fall sharing and Winter Cheery Flowers !

Allison,

I never did quite understand the difference between girl leaves and boy leaves. Are they girl leaves if the center by the stem is a light green, yellow or white? If so, then yes, my pink noid has girl leaves.

Not only does it have a little bloom basket, but it also has a nice size sucker which needs to be removed. I wanted to wait until it finished blooming, and I thought it was almost done, but then another bunch of bloom stalks grew and it's going to start blooming again in a few days.

I have a *ton* of leaves down, too. Well, okay, maybe not a ton, but well over 100. I'm hoping to have lots and lots of babies when the fall swap comes around.

I would definitely recommend Jack, if you do find that you have just a wee bit more space. All of the plants I've received from him so far have been beautiful and healthy. And this time I got a bonus, with all of those suckers!

Thanks, everyone for looking at my pictures.

Can you show a picture of plant # one more where may be see the leaves better please .
100 leaves is lot. And bet you get 300 or more babies !!

Edison, NJ(Zone 7a)

I'll take another couple of pictures tonight.

Wow - 300 babies?! I guess that does sound like a lot, but that's what I am hoping for. Besides the wonderful experience of actually growing them, I'll have lots to give away and trade, and some for my Church to sell at their holiday bazaar this fall, too.

Stephanie

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh that will be nice Stephanie ! Church bazaar are fun people will love them. Good idea to put a leaf or two down from each plant you have for insurance if something goes wrong /does not adjust to your enviroment and for sharing /trades...
Most times I get on the average three babies per leaves some 6 or more so I say 3 average !

Edison, NJ(Zone 7a)

Here's a sort of closeup of the pink noid leaf. Does this help any? Is this a girl leaf?

Thanks,

Stephanie

Stephanie sure is a beautiful girl ! I have several like this one or close to. Sassy Shell she is filling up now with flowers and buds . I have her pictures in my camera to post later ! Optimara Meg, Ma's Melody Girl, Roccoco ( SP) , I have a leaf with babies of Rebel's Meg. Allhave different shapes and sizes , shades of pinks . Sassy Shell a vintage has the deepest double pink. The plant without flowers looks just like Ultra Violet Dusk, which has a dark lilac blossoms but look like deep blue to me. I like displaying them together when they are blooming they look so good together.
And Ma's Melody Girl's blossoms are different then any of them .Ma's Melody Girl (9132) 05/31/2002 (O. Robinson) Semidouble coral star/raspberry fantasy, band; thin white-green edge. Dark green, quilted girl foliage. Standard
They are all beautiful.
