I thought at first this might be Miami Rose. I got a cutting several years ago at the same time I got some seedlings that were supposed to be from rainbow parents. This is the first time it has bloomed. I was surprised when it opened a nice dark magenta.
Blooms are not large. About 2.5 in across
Jan...
Any ID?
Hi Budgielover, your picture didn't show up, but it is very difficult to i.d. a cultivar from a picture without examining all its characteristics: growth habit, flower size, leaf shape, leaf color, leaf tip, flower fragrance, flower size, petal shape, petal color (front and back), etc. And to make matters more complicated, flowers can appear different in one climate compared to the same cultivar in another climate -- i.e. environment affects certain aspects of a flower. Additionally, a seedling can look exactly like its parent, but that doesn't give it the right to be called by its parents name. There are also many that look similar to each other -- for example, Key West Pink and Miami Rose look almost identical. Please see more about identification in the Frequently Asked Questions sticky thread. I'm sure it a lovely flower whatever it may be.
hi Jan..well it certainly looks like miami rose...does it have a cocoanute/ sun tan lotion scent?
Yes it does. I have about 5-6 plummies in pots but the tags wore off some time ago. I do remember getting Miami Rose about 3 yrs ago from someone in Miami. They have been in small pots in holding to slow their growth until I was ready to do a major landscaping overhaul which I am doing now. I will be planting the rest soon and will have to wait to see what color they turn out. Sometimes, that's half the fun. LOL
Jan..yes..you're right...Miami Rose is one of my very favorites...it is hardy.....blooms profusely..and oh the marvelous cocoanut scent...am sure your place will look wonderful...bob
