I am free for two weeks at least I hope.. so lets boogie

Spring, TX(Zone 9b)

I have been laid off from hewlett packard and starting next Monday I am footloose! for a few weeks I guess. I am trying to get on in the oil patch so if anyone has a lead, let me know! Aside from that, if anyone wants to hook up and head to Buchanans or Arbor gate on a date in the next few weeks, LETS DO IT! MAGGIE MOO! I finally have some time! Awful that it is so hot but maybe we can have a mini roundup at Arbor Gate or somewhere. Anyone game.? Right now, the next 2 weeks are clear but I am hoping to head to Nacagdoches to see a friend sometime. Lets rock and roll folks!

Hey caraboof, you're a new name to me, but I see you know maggiemoo. I was at The Arbor Gate just today. Hot as H E double hockey sticks. But I suffered through it anyway. :-)
Sorry you were laid off. Have you checked out Anadarko? My DH retired from there, but it is a good place to work. Our good friend's daughter just started there a couple of months ago, and she absolutely loves it. Anyway, you might check into it.

caraboof, When you say oil patch, you mean working in the oil fields, right? My hubby is involved in the oil bidness, mostly working up around the Abilene area. Let me know what you do, etc and maybe DH can help.

Edinburg, TX

Best of luck Caraboof. Enjoy your time off too. Seems we often get so tied up with work and making a living that we forget to live.

Speaking of which...I am going to do! Heading to D.C. for a week to check out the Smithsonian (well parts of it anyway) and foremost to visit the butterfly garden.

I meant the oil industry. Applied at Baker Hughes, but am doing some contracting now and love being home with the hounds (2 Irish Wolfhounds!)

A trip to ArborGate sounds expensive! I can really do some damage there!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

I do lots of damage when the weather is cooler. But when it's this hot, I tend to hit and run.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

April and I did ARE today--it was a tad warm--but we sure had fun.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeah warm would about cover it; it's a neat place and the company was great.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

We had no trouble finding shade though for short breaks--I'm definitely up for a both 'enchanted places' run and a 2920 run. Hey, its summer...what are you going to do, stay in the A/C until November? lol
Next time we can take one of my zillions of small coolers for drinks; that's about the only improvement I could see making. You got the places all to yourselves, the help has almost only your questions to answer, and if they have display gardens--you can see what, besides us, can survive the summers. What more can you ask out of life?

Oy! Caraboof, I've been kind of AWOL lately, just now saw this! Sure, maybe some of us can get together for a "mini roundup", if it's not too late. Maybe we could meet at a nursery good and early (before the heat really sets in) and retire to a cool place for lunch. I can only do that on a Saturday though.

Debbie, I like to do the same thing - observe gardens to see what is growing/surviving at different times of the year, even when it's really miserable outside. I sometimes take my umbrella for shade, lol. When it rained so much a couple of weeks ago (anybody remember that, an actual rainy week?) I couldn't find my umbrella, so I bought a white one to reflect the heat better.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Now why didn't I think of that? A white umberella for shade! Duh! No, there I was with no hat, checking out those gardens like you've talked about, cooling off a little in the store behind the gardens, then getting a salesperson all to myself to help me decide what would be best in the area I'm redoing. Yep, no one else there. Well, maybe two people, and you know what? I kept wondering if they were some other wackos like me from Dave's Garden. Almost asked them. LOL Then into the other shop (where you pay) to try to cool off, 'cause by now I was soaking wet and overheated. I can't take nearly as much of that anymore. Too old! And yes, It was the afternoon. But I was busy in the morning - in my yard working. That's how I got the bright idea to make the run over to AG to begin with. And when the muse strikes, one must follow the muse.....
Or plan ahead and go in the morning, like a sensible person, with a white umbrella....

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Lol, I rarely plan ahead, like a sensible person. I get to stop by AG for short times almost once a week, when I'm driving by on travel days for work. I wait until then to take my lunch, and sometimes (usually) it isn't until 2pm... which means the day has pretty much warmed up by then!

They are holding some Inland Sea Oats for me, I'm picking them up Thursday.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Wait, isn't that a little out of the way for your work? Or do you live out that way? 'Cause you say Conroe, and that isn't Conroe. LOL You must smell real nice when you return to the job.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL!! Yes, sometimes I smell like a real flower (like Bambi's little friend with the white stripe down his back)!! Actually, many times the travelling I do has got me stewing in sweat before I even reach AG. I have to get in and out of my car a lot and stand in sunny doorways. The car gets hot and doesn't have time to cool off before I get to the next destination, stop again, etc.

I do live in Conroe, but work near The Woodlands, and my territory (where I travel) is mainly zipcodes 77065 (FM 1960 & Jones Rd area) over to 77429 (Cypress). I usually end up on Cypress Rosehill Rd or Telge Rd, so it's actually faster to go up to 2920 and go back from there, which takes me right by AG (what a shame, lol.)
:-)

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Gotcha! I would hate getting in and out of a hot car these days! But a great cover for plant shopping on the clock! Shhhh.... I won't tell! LOL

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Lol!! Well, I am careful not to stop for anything silly, like eating lunch, so that I have the guilt-free time when I get there. :-)

The really bad days for getting in and out of the car all the time is when it's raining. No umbrella quite does the trick.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Not even the white one....

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

:-> No, not even the white one (in fact, it isn't as convenient as the other one, takes lots more effort to open and close it. Darn the bad luck!)

Spring, TX(Zone 9b)

Well when can we do it??? Saturday the 17th is out in the morning but the next weekend would work the 24th.

I just planted some EXOTIC begonias... very wild. I will take pics.
