I just got back from Germany/Austria and I'm having withdrawal pains from all the wonderful gardens I saw there. I was so fascinated with the sculptures everywhere on the building and in the gardens and would like an interesting sculpture (person, but not necessarily an angel) to use in my garden. I'd like for it to be about 4 feet tall. Also I was so amused by the gargoyles. The designers of the buildings must have had a sense of humor and gotten bored when they incorporated the gargoyles into the buildings. Has anyone seen any that could be used in the garden somehow. I'm needing sources to buy this kind of garden sculptures, any ideas? I live on the mid coast and would prefer to visit shops and see the objects but am open to the idea of ordering on the internet if anyone knows of some good sources.
Garden sculptures for sale in Texas
Near Brenham, which is not close to you, has a huge place called Fraziers. Yes, they have gargoyles...I got one there before. Hwy 6 Chappell Hills exit., south of Brenham.
Debbie
Thanks Debbie, I'll keep that in mind, maybe I'll have to make a visit there. Is it close to the Antique Rose Emporium? I'd love an excuse to visit there also.
yes it is...its right on the corner of the exit you take to get to ARE.
Barbor,
There is a huge statuary place on I-35 going from Austin toward Dallas...about 45 minutes out of Austin. I'll try to get the name next time I go by. I don't know about gargoyles, but they do have loads of figural statues. (PS...I'm from Edna....close by, huh?)
Connie
There is also one on the way to/from Corpus- have no idea what the name is, saw it as my DH whizzed by and have threatened to go back ever since, but Fraziers sounds much closer and near the ARE to boot!
Oh there is a guy in Stafford, I forgot about him. He make/pours the molds himself and I have purchased 2 huge things from him- budda head and huge, ungodly heavy japanese lantern in 4 pieces- I will have to drive by and see if he's still in business and get the name and address. His stuff was really, really reasonable.
april, I am definitely interested in getting the name of the guy in stafford. I think I've heard about him
April, oh.....buddha heads in Stafford? I would be interested to know who, where, also....thanks neighbor!
Susan
I'm thinkin' on one of those sea serpents you put in the lawn--talk me out of this!
Looks really good with that orange esperanza--what is the pink plant muidway up the right side of the budda head pic?
Ok Buddha is smelling a geranium, and having to fight to see because my yellow firecracker fern is trying to cover him, on the right there is a monarda/ bee balm- scarlet/red more than pink.
Oh I have a 2 piece hippo that looks better than lots I have seen so I am not the one to talk you out of the sea serpent...I think they are great! I landscape for my own taste and efforts to amuse my granson!
I've seen those sea serpents before at Frazier's too. Been a few years--hope they haven't gone the way of the loch ness monster. Bet if they got them they are expensive....
Monarda--that gives me hope. I planted 4 plants this year...one from seed I over wintered. I love that plant but hear it don't like our humidity. I sure hope they bloom next year.
I have a short attention span and two years is about it....lol
My red russelia is bloomin' its head off again--think it loved the rain. Its in the driest part of my garden.
One year my monarda were purchased from parks or someone else like that, never bloomed- thought it was me. This one was one that someone dug up out of their yard and it bloomed the 1st year I planted it and has continued each yr since, this is 3rd and last year I dug it up and moved it- I think they do ok w/ our humidity, although some varieties might not, not sure.
Well if the sea serpent is expensive, which I recall it was every place I saw it, it's out and Kai and I will have to settle for something less humorous and dramatic...we'll see.
Love the buddha head and the plantings around it. How do I find this guy in Stafford????
Susan
Susan I can't recall the guy's name. He was pretty old and his son was doing the sculptures - the son was maybe 40 ish so could still be going on, I just haven't seen any ads lately. However, if you know the area, here is how you get there 59 exit Murphy Rd toward Missouri City/ Ft. Bend Hospital and you take a left at Casa Ole ( it's the 2nd or 3rd left) drive for a short way and it's a nice house lots of large shade trees, nice yard w/ business on the side w/ a sign, on the Right side of the road. That's about the best that I can do until I drive by it- will drive by this week , end of the week. Sorry
dmj1218 We must think alike, you want a serpent, I want a gargoyle. Actually I'm surprised that there are not more gargoyles around, they where everywhere in the parts of Europe that I was in. At first sight they are eerie looking but then they are funny--kind of like a mouse. Not a REAL mouse but a sculpture, picture or toy.
I have a gargoyle already-had him for years--got him at Fraziers.
Thanks April. I will also check with my boss. She lives in Missouri City so maybe I can get her to check out the location of the directions you gave me!
Ok sorry to say that I drove by the guy's home & business and the physical structures are still there but the business is not. Too bad they were nice people, the father was a bit old, wouldn't be surprised if in the 3 years since I last saw him he moved on to the greener pastures, if you catch my drift.
Ahhhhh......thanks for checking!
Yeah I know, there stuff was nice, sometimes unique and reasonably priced; they had a sale every year which made it even better. Perhaps they have just moved it, if I hear any news will let you know.
I have a huge budda and/or a pan that I could make for you if you still haven't found what you want. I have some other large things but they aren't people type things
Thanks renatelynne, I think I want a girl/woman but not an angel. I'm thinking someday I'm going to just happen onto something that I like.
renatelynne
Do you make these things? Tell me more, I am interested.
April
Yeah! Me too!
WOW! you did that? There is one here in Oaklawn on the corner of Douglas and Cedar Springs. Its a different color, but the same snake, dragon or wahtever. :)
Sylvia
Very cool. I will dmail you. Thanks.
Very cool! Also love your patio! Did you guys do it yourself?
