CLOSED: Probable Watsonia

Brisbane, Australia(Zone 10a)

Hi all - I have a bunch of bulbs - probably a pink flowered Watsonia. They have been dug up as a result of a drainage project. I discussed them last year http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/509733/ as the flowers were pink with a white blotch. This year, there was very little flowering as the bulbs are quite crowded. Would any one like some for trade or postage?

what they all said - do you still have any? Don't worry if you don't - last year I traded for about 2K crocosmia bulbs and I begged people to take them off my hands and when I went to send them away I asked my DH where they were and he said Oh, I planted them in with the dayliles!

Hi All - I am mailing out "Watsonia" tomorrow to Vossner, Pat099, imzadi, KayJones and THGA. I have them bagged for crazy4vines, ariel73, vswilliams, marclay and carrielamont but I am waiting for some e-mail confirmation of your addresses or something. Please let me know if your addresses are correct in the exchange or send me the correct address by d-mail. I am sending about 10 bulbs to each person. They look ok with a pretty well developed bulb over the old growth. I found a very few with scale that I discarded. The rest I inspected relatively carefully and found no scale. However, when the arrive, please take a look yourselves. Sarah

Sarah, thank you so much for the watsonia. They arrived today unscathed from their journey. Do I need to soak in water before I plant? I intend to plant them inground, full sun. PLMK and again thank you so much. You have dmail.

Hi Vossner - Glad they made it. To tell the truth, I am not really sure what should be done with them. I doubt a soaking would hurt them but they probably wouldnt appreciate getting water logged. I can tell you that their foliage had started to brown so, the bulbs should be reasonably mature. We are in the same zone so, if you plant them in full sun to afternoon shade and reasonably drained soil, the foliage should start to come back in late summer/early fall. Good luck with them. Sarah
