Great shot! Thanks for posting it. I planted one of these last year and it has grown like gangbusters. The bark is absolutely fantastic, and the tree all around is just great. Is this your tree?

Neat isn't it! This tree was photographed at the Morton Arboretum in Illinois. If you are ever up this way, you would probably love spending hte day there. That bark is way cool!

Brilliant shot Equilibrium! You DO have a good eye!

There's some leaves there that need an ID.........

Why thank you! I can't take credit though. I shoot on automatic with automatic focus and I have good editing software. My vision is so poor I can't even see what shows up in the preview screen. I download at home and needless to say I do a lot of cropping and deleting of images.

Good luck on the leaves in the bottom left hand corner of that photo! I crawled around on my hands and knees looking for a plant stake that might tell me what that was and never did find anything but I did get a nice hawthorn needle stuck in my flip flop that went into my foot. If you find out what that is, let me know.

Here's my favorite photo from that weekend. I took over 1200 photos that weekend and out the gate I deleted 600. Of the remaining 600, I deleted about another 200 and from there I ended up with about 6 photographs that I was pretty proud of. Not great odds but I guess with me it is always going to be quantity and cross my fingers and hope for the best. I don't know why I like this photo so much but I do and it had nothing to do with the nonexistant skill set of the photographer... we're talking all I did was click and I got this-

Well, not only is that a great shot, but I want some of those fuzzy flowers! What are they?

Yes! Aren't those totally exotic looking! They are Prairie Smoke (Geum triflorum). Many Native Plant nurseries carry them. Also too, we've got a way cool new feature to the PlantFiles. If you go to the PlantFiles and click on this particular plant-

Now once you are at the plant in our files, look right underneath the gray area that provides common names for this plant as well as the binomial and you will find that 3 venders have this plant. Click there and you will get a listing of who has the plant. Is that cool or what! There's a new feature for books too that links right to Amazon and I have already ordered several books this way. I've ordered from Prairie Nursery before and I had no issues.

LOL!! Don't think for one minute I haven't discovered the vendors section of Plant Files! Sometimes I wish I hadn't!! Let me ask this though. The zone works for me (5b) but I am in the normally wet NC mountains. We're a bit dry this year, but normally we get quite a bit of rain! Do you think I have a chance with this prarie geum? I do have other geums that seem to make it well in my hottest, dryest places.

Tee he, they created a source of flower narcotics for us when they added that feature now didn't they! I tell you I have clicked on that link looking for something or other and saved it and gone back at a later time and done damage to my pocket book. All this at our fingertips??? Oh man oh man! They're going to need a plantaholics link up there underneath that link to venders for some of us.

I think if you have other Geum there that is probably a good sign. I don't have Prairie Smoke growing on my property so I can't tell you which cultural requirements you can push and which you can't push. Why don't you go over to the Indigenous Plants Forum and start a thread to ask. This is a Prairie Plant and it's indigenous to North American and I bet somebody who grows it can tell you if they think you have a shot at growing it. One thing I do is try to purchase plants like this in 3s. I find that if I only buy one, I don't get the best success rates.

Thanks, Equilibrium, for the link and suggestion. I did go over and post a thread. We'll see what folks over there think.

Collingswood, NJ(Zone 6b)

Could the leaves in the lower left be Wood Poppy (Stylophorum diphyllum)?

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Gee Equilibrium it looks like it could easily be a charector in a scarey movie!

Great photo.

Yes, the leaves could be to Stylophorum diphyllum but that usually blooms in spring and all I seemed to find was foliage.

Yes! I loved the silhouette of this tree. Neat. Somewhat reminded me of a Hawthorn which is another great tree for a scary movie once the leaves drop in fall.
