Any ideas? Appreciate the help

Hi, I tied to Google this and didn't get any good results and also looked through lots of pages of pictures from some of the id sites. This photo was taken in an empty lot next to my home here in Elephant Butte.

Thanks for looking,
angele

What kind of plant is it on?

Looks like a variegated fritillary

Would be just a guess till I can compare leaves to what bloomed here last year. There is lots and lots of it, maybe one of the globemallows. I'll look through last years pictures and see if I can find one blooming. It is one that grows in the wild, nothing I planted.

PiggyPoo sorry I was off looking at some pictures of wildflowers and missed your post. I thought it looked most like one of those too can't remember why I thought maybe it wasn't. I think I need some brain vitamins!

the only thing angele, is maybe because there aren't any visible "pokeys"??? i don't know for sure. it just looked like that from what i saw in my field guide

I know I took more pictures but can't find them. I'm sure I got one from the side. This one was taken May 16.

I knew I took a picture from the side!! This photo is from May 24. Do you ever wonder what these creatures are thinking when we stick a camera in their faces? Paparazzi!!!
That is a great website, thanks!
