Making a graph showing where each plant is

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Today I started working on a system in which I have 16 trays, 4 on each shelf, leaving the top open for things not on trays. I draw a picture of each tray and show where each plant is. I will be putting all babies together, minis together, standards, etc. Each tray has a number and each plant on that tray is labeled and also written down in a notebook. It is going to be really nice when I get it all done but I got so tired after spending all day doing it, not to mention I never went to bed Tuesday night and have not slept any in a few days. Anyway, it is going to be so cool. Here are a couple of trays that I got done today. All have been repotted and have new wicks. The trays were washed and fresh water was put back in the trays. The first tray is of new babies. I have Carman, Lyra, and a few more.

Here is a tray of standards, all in new pots with new wicks. I will be so glad when they all look like this. Then I am going to put up a shelf in my big window and make it a place for my very own plants, not ones that I cut up to make new babies.

Looks good Jesse. From the picture, it looks like the plants in the middle are getting more light. I don't know if you read the thread about which plants need more light or not. Plants with variegated leaves need more light. Also dark leaves and dark blossoms need more light. Girl leaves do better with less light. This might help you place your plants on the trays. The variegated leaves and dark leaves and dark blooms go in the middle. Everything else goes on the ends.

Jesse very nice ! Good job. But you do need to sleep your going to get sick.
This will be so nice ! I've had friends that did this.
Me I move mine around like furniture so I could never be so neat like your's.
Now myself I have fount I need to place variegated on the outer edge or natural light and it's hard but keep them on the cooler side or I lose my variegation :(( But it's always fun when I get babies of these plants they have a super variegation when their young !
In a few of my books one for example " African Violets Queens of the Indoor Gardening Kingdom" by
" Melvin J. Robey" Known to be one of the very best African violet growing books. Has a large chapter on Light and your Plants ~ And it covers everything even how to set up you name it it talks about it !
It says to place at the end of the tubes Avs that are, Light green foliage, pink and white blossoms, variegated leaf varieties, and girl-type foliage.
Then directly under lights place plants with : dark green foliage, blue and purpel /dark blossoms, double petalled blossoms, boy - type foliage, and young seedlings/babies/leaf pots.
Great job Jesse !

Thanks guys. This helps me know more where to place what. I had read to put russians on the end because they needed less light. But I did not know about the varigated ones needing more and light leaves needing less. And knowing where to put the various color blooms really helps too. Now I can sit down and graph out where to put things and then move the plants there. This really helps me know where to put things a little better.

I do have another question though. I have noticed that a lot of you guys' leaves look really shiny. Mine don't do that. They look sort of dry and brittle and are always dusty. How can I help them with this?

Thanks,
Jesse

I have always read and been told variegated plants need less. Maybe when their a baby and have all white leaves . If a variegated plant gets too much nitrogen, light, or heat variegation can be lost.

I have fount my Russian plants enjoy low /natural light.

Thanks Allison. I will make sure that I do that. And I use the Optimara plant food which contains no urea. It was the only plant food I could find with little or no nitrogen. Which reminds me that I need to give my babies some food. I think they are hungry.

I like Optimara plant food and African violet food. I have often switched back and forth . Their food is excellent for leaves, babies any plant you are wanting to encourage new root and foliage growth yet it does have a good middle number for flowering. And the AV I like too .
Many hybridizers like I read on VB says numbers even are the best to use. I have felt anytime I've used Optimara food my plants were happy and blooming !
Now I am trying to get all my plants trans-planted into my new soil I like it ! It says it has food so I am not worried about feeding now. I wish I could see the food !
Your plants are growing well and happy Jesse so that's what maters don't change anything !

Morning Jesse,

Wow! You are so organized! I wish I had more lights but don't so have to manage with what I have for now.

Thanks for sharing your system....looks like a good one as everything looks so nice and healthy.
