Going into my first season with Brugs that were started from rooted cuttings. Have them potted up and outside and have question re: fertilizers. One information source says feed them lots of rich fertilizers. Another site says don't use a lot of "Super Bloom" with high Phosphorus content or you may not get blooms. Wonder if some of the experienced Brug growers on this site would comment on their experiences in feeding their plants------pro and con. Thanks,

Brug diet ?
Hi Perry,
I think different growers do different things. I try to listen to Monika since she has the most experience of anyone I know. Her advice to me was to use something with a low middle number. I use CalMag and it is 15-5-15. I've used 20-20-20 in the past and had good results, but I do NOT use any of the bloom booster products more than one or two times a summer, if at all. I think if you just feed them and don't let them stress much from lack of water, you will get plenty of blooms. In your area, putting them in a spot with only morning sun would help too. Brug blooms tend to pout a lot when they are hot. Good luck and I hope you will be able to show us pictures when they start blooming for you.
Brugie, thanks for sharing information. Looking at pictures is great and I will post if I ever get any good blooms. However it sure is nice to get away from "show and tell" occasionally and get information from experienced plant breeders !
Hallo Perry
when your plants are potted in a black container, make sure, that the container doesnt get any sun at all. The black color heats up from the sunrays and the pot soil heats up also. It burns the roots of the brugs.
Thanks, Monika, I will sure remember that. It does get hot in this part of Texas---------got up as high as 103 degrees F. in May!
Monika, I've got a standard brug in a really dark blue pot that gets sun up till about 1:00 and I'm having a terrible time with leaves yellowing. The blooms are nice, but the poor thing sure looks naked with so few leaves even though I water it daily. I wonder if the dark pot could be part of the problem. I'm going to move it tomorrow.
I wonder if that could be part of the problem with a hibiscus in a similar pot with yellowing leaves????
