Attention Lowe's shoppers:

I saw echinacea Orange Meadowbrite in 1 qt pots for $9.99. You know just how well they take care of their plants. Wait another week or two and they will be in the 50% off shelves. They would be a true bargain, as they recover very quickly with some TLC.

The manager at the store I visit the most sees me there so often, says hello and tells me which the "freshest" bargain shelf.

I'm thinking if we wait one more year they'll have them in the 4" pots for $1.25 at Cornelius in early spring. I hope someone will give me some for Christmas.

Amazing how much they want for them--and the fact is, other than the bloom color, the plants aren't near as robust as say; white swan or rubinstern or even paradoxa. But I never met an echie I didn't like...

Check on the summer phlox for me while you are down there. Found a cute water gardens nursery on North Mason and Saums called 'Alpine' while taking daughters car to collision repair center at Mason & Saums--let me tell you it was the high point of the day. A new family owned nursery business trying to compete with the big boxes. They had some really nice pond set ups for a small place. I picked up some pentas and a purple lantana just to help...lol

I wonder sometimes whether you and I have stood in line at the nursery, without knowing, lol. I gallivant on all of Mason Road and know exactly what nursery you're talking about. Have not made it a point to stop there yet. Thanks to Maggiemoo, I recently discovered Nelsons so I'm kinda hot on them right now.

I remember 2 years ago when echie Meadowbrites were selling in the hi $20s. I thought I got a bargain when I paid $14 for one that year. Since then I have bought some yellow and orange at the end of season sales, and they have come back strong, in fact, about to bloom. Have failed miserably trying to grow White Swan from seed. Did you participate in the echie coop? I bought a hot cherry echie, Twilight, can't wait to get it.

no--my first was the plant markers...I really like plants in person unless they are dormat like bulbs or LA iris. Nelson's is nice--been there for at least 15-20 years too. Used to go there alot when I had a pond.

I think I have some seed or soon will--I'll start you some for fall RU. Cherry sounds cool--that's a different color...

My daughter was desperately hoping I hadn't noticed that nursery....no luck there. I figured if I spent the better portion of the day trying to rent a car, etc. for a wreck she wasn't the cause of but they still made us "jump thru hoops" to get taken care of...I would hit the nursery and drag her there also. Hey, its the first time I've made her make a nursery in years...and she got to help pick out plants for under her window. lol

We probably have been in the same garden center lines.....

I meant to mention about LA irises. I noticed you had posted comments about them. I just bought my first one on ebay this spring--Ann Chowning. No flower action, I guess I will have to patiently wait til next year.

One of my neighbors planted yellow flag iris, well it has taken over her property. Therefore, I have been kinda shy on iris, except for this LA and some TBs I got from two wonderful DGers. No flowers on those either, but leaves are so big, I can't believe they didn't bloom. I have been warned, that TBs might not like our warm weather, but I'm not deterred yet.

Vossner--

I never met one of these perennial plants I didn't like:
echinaceas, rudbeckias, cupheas, LA iris

And would sure love to have more of these plants:
monarda, americrinum, crinum. spuria iris, joe-pye weed, pineapple sage, daisies, summer phlox, rangoon creeper, hydrangeas, amaryllis, ...

And don't like any plants with thorns:
bougies, roses (even though they grew well for me--I just hate dealing with them)

And plants I own only in my dreams:
lupine, delphinium, peonies

Deb
you are making me laugh- you cannot grow peonies here! (I know that you know that; bear in mind, they draw ants, I know from my own observations as a child spending a few weeks w/ my great grandmother in Indiana) but I hear that you can grow tree peonies! Have you tried? Amaryllis? I am the queen of!

April--
add completely thornless roses to that 'I dream of' list.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Deb I think there are some of those! I am not kidding.

Hers are putting out green. can you believe it?!?!?!

Hi, just catching up on some reading and wanted to jump in a minute to say I got some roses from the 99 cent store around mothers day. They were Jackson & Perkins. I got Purple Tiger, Outrageous, Fragrant Wave, Nancy Reagan, Bill Wariner, and Julia Child. I have to admit that after going to the first store and finding such a great deal I had to go driving to find another one of these stores :O)

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

good for you! Those are all great selections, in particular Bill Wariner & J. Child.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 7b)

I was so excited. I had taken my mom out to eat for her birthday and then she had to stand there and watch as I went wild digging through the boxes :O) They all look good except Julia Child :( I'm hoping they are what they say they are. They do have the little metal tags on them though. Now if I could just remember some thornless roses to give Deb some ideas :)

Weatherford, TX(Zone 7b)

Venessa what 99 store are you talking about? I live out 40 miles from Ft Worth and I know the dollar stores, not the 99 ones. Thanks

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 7b)

WeedLady, I think it's called .99 Only They are fairly big stores. The 3 that I went to are on Camp Bowie, Rufe Snow and Colleyville Blvd. I don't think there are any that are closer to you because my aunt lives in Azle and comes to the one on Camp Bowie. They get them in every year around mid May but you have to get to them quick because they don't do anything to keep them alive.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Debbie, I have a thornless rose called Zepherine Drouhin. It's antique and puts out a wonderful vivid pink flower that has a bluish cast to it. It has a very strong lemon scent. It blooms usually just in spring and fall, but mine for some reason had a bloom earlier this week. It's gone now. The heat probably got it. When you come up to get the daturas I'll give you a cutting. It's a climber, but doesn't get really huge like Cecile Brunner.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks silver--but I got out of roses about 5 years ago. Now if anyone can think of plants that repel oppossums....

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, sorry, that I don't know anything about. We rarely have possums, but we do have moles and or gophers. I have some gopher stuff I need to spray. Bought it last year and just never used it.
