I found this hidden at a nursery in town :)
I go there to get philodendrons..the tage said 12.95 and HAD to bring it home.
Anyone know who she is?
I brought home a monster!
i could not get a good shot of a new leaf coming out but the new foliage is red.
You sure struck "Gold" with your new find, and what a great price, the plant is huge, and with buds. Once the flowers are open, that will be the best way to determine what Hoya you have. It won't be long for the buds to open from your pictures.
Deb
Well one bud fell off :( and I opened it..the inside is red the outside is white.
The only thing that has me confused is some of the bloom pods look red and some look white.
I am not sure if it has two plants in there.
Whatever it is ..I was SHOCKED by the price and had to bring it home!
Wow...monster is right?!! lol!
I'd guess Carnosa at first sight (do the leaves resemble those of the cuttings I'd sent you a while back?)
But I can't tell from the photo.....are those silver flecks on the leaves or water spots?
Deb's right though.....it'll be much easier to ID when your blooms open...which shouldn't be long, now!
You really *scored* this weekend, girl!
Hmm I am untrained at the leaves girlie :) LOL SO I don't know..looks like a couple cuttings I have going :)
LOL..is it normal for some leaf pods to be red and some white?
and hmm I think those are water spots :) She really needs a shower
Hmm....it could be a 'stage of development' kinda thing....or a light thing (the 'red' ones got more light than the white?)
(I'm real 'technical', aren't I? )
It'll be interesting when they open, for sure!
That could be..she was hidden behind all the philodendrons..in the shade house but against it..so some of it might have gotten more light :)
Chris you have lost your mind:-) you are addicted "big time". That's a great find, I need to go nursery shopping with you.
Blessings,
Awanda

LOL...yup...bent on owning at least a couple lovelies :) and if you think this is BAD
Just wait until I go to Smoley's
Oh boyo oh boy oh boy :)
Oooh, Chris, I'm going to pay Smoley a visit in a couple o weeks! Let me know how your visit goes, will ya?
Wow what a nice plant... Yep she has gone off of the deep end for sure. And Diane I will be chasing the Fed ex truck next week too. I like you scour new towns for nurseries too. Thats the only enjoyment I get out of going out of town.. New additions...
Have fun at Bob Smoley's, that should be fun to visit there.
I should be going this upcoming weekend if he is available..he called me back but I was not home to answer the call
Don't worry about your carnosa...they do better in lower light generally. Mine bloomed like a mad woman when I hung her in deeper shade!!!
Oh good :) I think she is probably a carnosa :) and she was in a shade house. I am going to try her in the house..if she does not do well. I will put her outside with the others :) She is just so large that I am afraid to hang her!
Lorry,
It's a beautiful MONSTER.
Shirley
Hi Chris - just joined the club today and revelling in reading notes from other hoya lovers. Your plant looks a bit like one of the h.publicalyx. varieties. I have one that is almost 10 years old and is now a plant mass about 60 cm wide and deep, and has the most wonderful display of dark red flowerclusters mixed with very light pink flower clusters. According to Dale Koppenburg (whose wonderful book 'The Hoya Handbook', I have), mixes of colours are not unusual in this type of hoya. Hope this helps
Yep, Lorry - I agree with everyone else's said assessment - - YOU'VE GONE OVER THE DEEP END, GIRL! But you obviously are NOT alone - - we are ALL there!!
Boy oh BOY, what a WONDERFUL SCORE you made with that monster hoya! And what a bargain at that price!!!!!! I guess the 'scouring local nurseries' is another sure sign of addiction. I've done it myself many a time!
Good find, girl!!
Wow, what a great score!
Heather
Boy, you found yourself a great plant.
Thanks so much Kat :) It did open some flowers and will take a picture of it tonight..the flowers are mostly white with a lovely red center to them but some of the other flowers look like they may be red :)
Betsy :) I have always scoured local nurseries :) Hoyas may be a new addition but plants aren't (LOL) This all started with a little hindu rope and a little krimson queen and found and BAM :) now I am in trouble. I am going to Bob Smoley's on saturday. I hope you all pray that I have money in the bank when I get home!
I would be happy to send cuttings of this one to anyone who wants some. She has a lot of roots we had to pull off of the plantstand...so it should be easy to root up from those :)
