Barboursville, WV(Zone 6a)

Ok..what do I do? They are everywhere and it looks as if they've been in my epi basket.
I did a search and some posts meantion "baiting" for them..but I don't know what that means.

Is there something I can put in the basket? Is there something to spray on the leaves? They've gotten to the hostas too grrrrrr

I've read that beer works, also. Try a google search for that.

I'm finding the Sluggo works like a charm. Now if someone could give me a similar tip for earwigs. The 'oil in a shallow dish' isn't handling the problem.

I just scatter snail bait around mine. You should be able to buy bags of snail bait at your local Home Depot, Target, Costco, Wal-Mart, or any garden shop.

I've personally seen a six-month-old Cocker Spaniel puppy die in my friends arms, in convulsions from eating just one teeny tiny bit of snail bait. So I stopped using that stuff many, many years ago. Sluggo is advertised as being safe for pets.

I switched to Sluggo several years ago because of its non-toxic properties in regard to pets. The problem with many of the snail/slug baits is that they look like pet kibble or koi food and children/pets are drawn to it. Even with Sluggo, if you have pets or small children, their activities around baits spread on the ground should be closely monitored.

Another choice which is very effective and can work well in potted plants (ones which pets and small children won't have access to) is a brand of thick liquid snail bait called "Deadline." Of all the baits it seems to be the most effective and isn't affected by dew or rain (unless it is persistant and heavy rain) which tends to break down the pellet types.

My God, Stellapathic, that is terrible. I will make sure that I get Sluggo in the future. I usually water my snail bait in immediately after putting it in the container or on the ground around the base of the plant so I guess it doesn't look appetizing to anything but snails, but why take any chances? How awful and sad.
