Help with buttercup !!

my garden and yard has been over run this yr with buttercup ! the more i pull the more comes bck (yuck) i dont think at this point i will live long enough to kill this horrible thing .i relize now that pulling is not the thing to do as it just helps to spread .i hate the thought of useing something toxic because we have dogs and i allso have a veggie garden .does anyone have any ideas how to deal with this aweful plant ?

Shine, there's an entire thread about this scourge on our land at the other (Garden Web) site, "Northwest" forum. I believe buttercup is in the title. That site is down at the moment apparently, but check it later.

Some of the things mentioned there were
don't let it go to seed,
lime the areas where it resides, (I'd need an aerial drop)
pulling is okay, it helps stop the runners from spreading which you know is alarmingly fast!

I can't recall if they said vinegar on a hot sunny day would kill it or what, if any, weedkillers to try. Pretty much it's an uphill battle you will fight on an ongoing basis. Sorry.

One spring, as I weeded these out w/ a vengance - a friend said "so what are you going to put in its place?" It was then that I realized the live and let live approach would give me the much needed serenity. So - back there - behind my garage - the buttercup is in its glory and that is fine w/ me.

When i was a kid i loved to play the buttercup game (pick the flower and stick under your chin to see if you liked butter ) and it is a pretty flower. but it is chokeing out everything from grass to my beloved veggies. i have tryed the vinegar trick no luck there either .i had some one tell me to pick all the flowers befor they spread the seed's .so now im going to save my $ to pay my lil darling daughter to pick for me and i wil keep digging too .lol thnks so much for everyones advice ..If i find something that will work i'll post it .
