Hi, My name is Joanne and I am new to this web page. I joined because of my new addiction to Hoyas. My previous plant addiction was to Epiphyllum. I had hundreds but lost most of them to a fierce winter freeze and I just don't have the heart to restart a new collection. With the Hoya, I can keep them in the house instead of the greenhouse which expands my enjoyment and my family is not complaining, "are you still in the greenhouse?" :~)
I have enjoyed this site very much so far but I have a few questions........... what is a DH?
What does ROTFLMBO stand for?
Pimpette? I highly advise you not to look that one up on google unless you like smut. ( I think I finaly figured out that it's Carol from Aloha Hoya, right?)
May be ya' all should put out a "how to" guide! LOL!
It's been great fun checking out what you all have to say but it's time I got in the game and quit lurking! I am attaching a picture of my latest bloom, H. Publicalyx "Royal Hawaiian Purple" or sometimes known as 'chimera'. First bloom for me on this plant so I was WAY excited. I still have H. Publicalyx 'Reva' to open, may be this week. I have not seen a bloom on this one so it will be a total surprise. YEA!
Thanks for listening to me rattle on. - God bless, -joanne
Hello Hoya Fans!
Joanne, welcome!
Rolling on the floor laughing my butt off = ROTFLMBO. DH = Dear Husband.
Would love to see a photo of Reva when she opens. I have one I grew out from a small cutting. It's old enought to bloom but hasn't done so yet. I also grew out what I purchased as "Chimera" for three years for it to look just like H. pubicalyx Pink Silver. I was highly ticked off....
So welcome, we're all a friendly bunch of hoya addicts and yes, you have the Pimpette correct.
Susan
Yes, welcome Joanne.
I have pubicalyx Reva also, and it is now a 3 year old large plant on a trellis, but has never bloomed. So you are ahead of some of us already.
Be sure to take a picture when it does.
I have epis also, but find I enjoy the hoyas more as most are small like you say, plus the blooms last longer when you do get some. Also I enjoy the foliage all year much more so than the epis. Hoyas are so different and diverse a group of plants.
Be warned however that once you are good & hooked, you may be spending a lot of time back out in that greenhouse. Ha Ha

Welcome, Joanne! I myself is rather new here. I can only agree on what Susan says, that it's a friendly bunch of hoya addicts here.
Thank you for asking what ROTFLMBO means. So now I know too =)
Sorry to hear about your epis. I have about 20 epis; one is old and the rest are about 2 years old. Only the old one has bloomed so far.
Please post a picture when your 'Reva' opens. I have a small cutting of that one.
Welcome, Joanne!
I got a good chuckle out of reading your post. When I first joined (about a year ago) I had to ask alot of the same questions. =0) Never hesitate to ask *any* question ~ this is a very warm and friendly group of folks with alot of growing experience and everyone is always willing to help. Just jump right on in!
Oh and by the way - the picture of your hoya in bloom is AWESOME!
Again, welcome aboard ....but watch out, you may soon be a HOYA ADDICT too!
Betsy
Welcome, Joanne. My name is Karen, and I'm a hoya addict (tee hee, not even TRYING to recover!) Glad you decided to join this crazy forum - lots of funny, caring, knowledgable people here. Just beware the pimpette (you were right about who that is!) and the Hoya Jedi Master (HJM), and you'll do ok!!!
Welcome to the Daves Garden Hoya Forum, any Hoya addict will ( or should ) end up here :)
Now that is one dark pubicalyx 'RHP', congrats on the first blooms on that one.
Milan
Hello All! I have had so much fun just reading all your posts I couldn't stop myself from joining. I do have to tell you all I think I'm past the point of 'becoming' and addict, I am a full blown one! I even have my 14 year old daughter searching the web for dealers, photos and info. She has her own list for Carol next week! Eee-gads, I have created a monster, but what fun to have a partner in crime. We spent last Saturday on a nursery search for hoya.
Thanks for the warm welcome! -joanne
