Greetings from Hawaii
Hi Carol! I thought I'd let you know the seeds you sent me did pretty darn well! I have 3 very good starts from them... thanks for sharing.

Hey, hope you are having a ball. It's getting hot in the midwest. You better keep Mary there for a while until things cool back down. I'm sure this is coming from the west coast someplace. LOL!
Lucky you Mary to visit with Carol and enjoy all the beautiful plants that she grows.
I hope you both have a great time.
PS. Aren't you glad now that you didn't need to send me your snorkel? LOL
What fun you two must be having!!! Pictures please!!!

Oh you guys must be having the best time. I bet Mary is so WOWed by all the beauty of your place, Carol. What a trip. Please take some pics for us all!! How long will Mary be there?
I was completely wowed by the beauty of Carol's place. She and her husband truly own a piece of paradise. We just got home at 1 in the morning. My husband was really pleased and excited that he got to go into a lava tube, just a short hike from their place. Don't tell the cruise lines or they'll be wanting to drag all the tourists through your property. It was really the best part of the trip to meet you two and see your piece of paradise. Thanks so much!
Mary...we really enjoyed your visit!!! Please come back. Now, did your DH get any pictures of us...because I forgot totally - I was having such fun!!!
We need pictures of your visit. Sounds so fantastic. Where else did you visit Mary? I bet the you eued and ahed everywhere you went.
Harry hasn't downloaded the 400 pictures he took around the islands yet. I didn't take much with my camera because his is so much better. He had to go back to work today, so he hasn't had time to download them.
We went to Hilo, (Big Island) where we saw Carol and Rob, then to Maui for 2 days, then to Kona, Kauai, and Honolulu. Except for the City area of Waikiki, I'd love to visit each area again and spend a longer amount of time. The cruise was a nice way of doing it for a first time visiter, but it just gave you a taste, and leaves you longing for more. One thing I'm sure of is that I prefer the wet side of the islands to the dry. Give me the rain forest look anyday!
All the pictures of Carol's place were on Harry's camera, so I'll post them if Carol doesn't mind, after he downloads them.
Note to Carol: Might be dangerous. The whole population of Dave's will want to descend upon you if they see how pretty it is there. Hope they don't all arrive at the same time. :-)
Those are great pictures! Im always amazed to see my house plants.. growing free, and so HUGE in Hawaii.
Sounds like a wonderful trip.
I am always remembering hearing from a Guide in Costa Rica that when he went to the USA at 7 years old, he could figure out why Americans sold weeds in the Supermarket!!! Talk about a wake up call with relativity!!! Carol
Neat photo, Mary. The market is run by the Hawaiian HomeLands...and they are also building a cultural center to teach their own and 'us' their culture. This shed houses the building of an outrigger canoe...being done by a fellow in a wheelchair who gives classes to students as to the techniques and whys and wherefores. They do use chainsaws and modern tools.....
It was hot that day, wasn't it, Mary....all the brugs were so droopy!!!

After a wonderful day I was shanghaied and shipped outta there before I had a chance to make off with any of the beautiful tropicals. I think they even sent an armed coast guard guide to make sure I really left. Hah! Those dang California plant police must have finked on me.
Thanks for a wonderful time!
Oh gosh!! Those are wonderful pictures!
I absolutely love the "turquoise" looking flowers.
It looks like you had a great time, thank you for sharing your trip with us!
I'll say...those are great pictures!!! Fun seeing them!!! That Green Jade Vine (Strongladon whoosiwatsitsii) is awesome...it thrills me everytime I see it!
Carol
Wonderful pictures. I would just one time in my life, like to go to the islands. Your flowers are awesome, Carol. You must work with them all the time. Love the lava tube.
Wonderful pictures! It looks like paradiese to me.
If they ever did a plant series on "Survivor"...they should film it here!!! I used to obsess...but there is too much now to be OCP about and I can't reverse the aging process, try as I might...so if something looks bad I usually whack it down or pull it out and throw it in the bush...seems to do well!! If only one cutting of a vireya out of 10 roots...c'est le guerre...by the time it is rooted there are more to cut! I don't mean to sound cavalier ... nor modest...but gardening here, planting the right things in the right places...is more or less a no brainer. Sorry. It's true. I tried growing other things like Artichokes (fusalarium fungus gets 'em every time), Canna (rust!!!) and some other exotics... I won't spend my time spraying (because 3/4 of the time it is raining and I can't spray!!!)....so....
Monika...it IS pretty close to Paradise!!! If I could only clone myself to prune as much as I need to.....
As much as I show off my plants.... Mother Nature takes care of most of it... I do admit I offer a few suggestions.....
Carol :>)
