I eally need help, I have 7 eggs due on different days. My 1st set was to be due 2 days ago. I read the instruction good, and the instrutions said to wait 21 day before for the hatching process to be done. So now the 1st set is 2 days past it's due time. Now I'm kind of scared to discard the egg, because their might be something still in their. Yesterday, I tried to candle the eggs by using a shoe box. I cut the top (which is the cap of the box) of the box (about the size of a quarter), then I put a little keychain light source in the box. I closed the cap, place the egg carefully on the cap of the shoe box and the egg did not illuminate. Now the weird thing is that I used the egg that was in the refriegerater and it illuminate awsome (that was before I tried to candle the 1st set). Now this is a pretty dumb thing to say but I think, since I bought the eggs from TSC (Tractor Supply Company) they might of gave the chickens a shot to when they make eggs they won't create an embryo when incubating. I also bought the incubator from TSC. So please help I'm really in need. Thanx.
I really need help...
Yes, it can be confusing when hatch time is near.
I didn't know that fertile eggs could be purchased from Tractor Supply. We don't have one here yet, so I'm not familiar with what all they sell.
I've never heard of a shot to make the eggs not create an embryo. I don't know why they would sell hatching eggs that they had treated with something to make them not hatch though. That would be against their better interests I would think.
Anyway, if I have eggs that go more than 3 days past the date, they have never been any good. I usually break them to see for sure, and they have been rotten and stink something awful. If it goes 3 days past, you can be pretty sure they're not going to hatch. At least that's what I've experienced.
I know it is disappointing and frustrating when you wait so long for the big event, and nothing happens. I ordered 12 eggs from Ebay and babied them for the 21 days and not a single one hatched. Bummer !
Good luck, and keep us posted if any of the others hatch. I hope they do.
PeggieK, well thanx for answering my needed queastions. Well got some great news my 1st set of eggs hatched today around 3:00 p.m. So far it's in good condition from what I know. I helped it out a little. I think I got the hang of it. Hey bad news too, TSC dosen't sell eggs in my area and probably yours (if you have one) because of the bird flu. Well once again thanx for alot. If you have any questions you can write to me, and i'll try to answer them.
Sry to bother you again. I have a problem trying to find the membrane of the chick. I think I see it's head blocking it's beak cause I can't see the chicks nose holes, eye, & head. So now I really need your help. Cause I don't want the chick to die.
I guess I'm not sure what you mean. Is this the membrane of the inside of the shell from the hatched chick ?
As for helping a chick get out of the shell, I only did it once. The navel was still attached to the membrane of the shell and it pulled it and caused the chick to bleed out and die.
From what I've heard, they have to do it all themselves so that they expend all the energy that is needed to cause them to fully absorb all of the yolk into their abdomen. Otherwise, the yolk will still be hanging out of the navel and they won't live. I think that's what happened to the one I helped.
Hope yours is doing ok.
Keep the membrane moist and maybe just poke a small hole for the beak to get started. More help than that and you may cause it to hatch too quickly and it will bleed to death. Sometimes chicks, like human babies get into an abnormal position which makes hatching impossible. Those chicks are sometimes abnormal in some way and never live very long. Others do just fine. Just need a tiny bit of help.
I have another question, my first chick that was born two, days ago kind of walks like it 's drunk. But the other one that was born two days ago seems totally fine on walking. Now today I got another chick and it to, seems to walk fine. Now the major problem is that the first chick is not eating, and it's sleeping everytime I see it. I rarely see the chick with her eyes open. The 2nd and 3rd chick walk, eat, and sleep regularly.
If the first chick won't eat or drink, there is something wrong with it internally. It will probably die, unfortunately. Sounds like the other ones are happy and healthy!
When I have eggs that go past the due date, after two days I run a bowl of luke-warm water and set the egg in the water for a minute. If it floats - it is rotten. If it sinks, pull it out quick and put it back in the incubator - it is still good. That way if I have rotten eggs I don't have to break them to find out - and I pitch them out into the woods as far as I can throw it!! :-)
Good idea. I learn something new each time I come to the forums. I had no idea that the rotten ones would float. Throwing them into the woods has got to be much more pleasant than breaking them....shooooeeee !!!!
Why is my chick doing this, It's breathing through it's mouth. And it also sleeps and won't open it's eyes unless I scream or something. This chick is about 5 days old. It kind of looks like it's going to die. I really need help, please don't say it is going to die, please! It also threw - up after I gave it some nutrient stuff (liquid). I also gave it some water.
Eric19, how is the chick doing ? Sounds like he may not have made it.
Sorry if he didn't, but I hope he did.
How did your other eggs do ? Did you have any of them hatch ?
Hey PeggieK, Listen to this that one with the broken leg and the one that was breathing through their nose both died a few days ago. Sry I didn't keep contact with you. I think everything is going wrong, I bought 8 chicks from TCS about a year ago, now I got 2 chickens. You believe that! I'm really pissed now because yesterday I had 3 chickens, but something got a hold of my one of my hens and probably ate it. I heard the noise of the helpless hen scrambling for it's life but it was to late. I also have a rooster that tried to protect the hen from the animal trying to grab the hen. The rooster must of fought with the animal because their are the same color feathers as the rooster on the ground in multiple place outside. See I leave the coop door alittle open, so in the morning the chicken can all go out by themselves. But now I learned a big lesson, TO CLOSE THE COOP DOOR! This all took place at night. By the way can you tell me if their are Falcons in Michigan? Thanx
