I bought a small pot of this particular cactus. I “thought” it was a small prickly pear! It was called a Flat-leafed Prickly Pear! I didn’t find out what it was until I searched extremely thin prickly pear! I was gobsmacked! It gets HUGE! Just how long can I keep it a manageable houseplant size?

Sorry, it took so long to answer but I just noticed your question. Mine grew at a moderate rate and it also hates cold. weather. Be careful when walking by it because just lightly brushing up against it will have you pulling needles out. It is easy to start new plants if it becomes too large.
I just keep starting new ones as it gets too large for my area. Hope this helps.
