Hello,
I am new to this forum. I recently made some containers with Caladium and after repotting them all of a sudden within a week the leaves have become limp and fallen down. Not sure what happened. How can I revive them.Appreciate any help.
The pics of the container are at http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/603230/ . The caladium of the first container is in question.
Thanks

Help the leaves of Caladium have become limp
Cold temps do that to ours here early in the season.don't keep too wet either. If from cold they will regrow when it gets warmer.Caladiums love heat and humidity, temps below about 65F they hate.
Thanks Eclipse, The leaves have now become brown like they are burnt and still limp and drooping....I am so sad.
Cut off all the foliage, let it go totally dry and don't water until you see new growth. It will come back just fine if you don't water it.
have you fert the plant since repotting? It sounds like high soluble salt burn. Look at the roots and see if they are all white or there is some browning of the roots
Thanks Kay and Tigerlily. I will cut of the foliage right after posting this reply. I
I did add 'osmocote' at the time of repotting. What do the white and brown roots indicate. I am not sure.I think they shd be white correct.
Osmocote is a slow release fert, so if you put too much in then you cannot water it out-you have to repot the plant and cut quite a bit of the foliage off to take the strain off the plant of trying to keep the leaves alive, but leave some.
The root should be white to light tan, but not black or dark brown. If they are black then they got burned from the fert and you have to get the rest of the fert out or it will keep releasing every time you water-which is going to be soon. Put the plant in the shade too-that will help if it is fert burn.
Kay and Tigerlily , I cut the foilage, repotted and put the plant in shade. Now I am just waiting and waiting for some activty.Hope the leaves sprout. Thanks a bunch.'
BTW Lilly the roots were not exactlly white but not brown either, so there is still hope and dont we all live on hope...:):):)
If the corms were not mushy, they will come back - just let them rest awhile.
