HSUS RAVS team was here

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

From Sunday to Wednesday, the Humane Society's Rural Area Veterinary Services team was here with almost 40 vet students and technicians from around North America. They spayed or neutered some 150 cats and dogs, vaccinated more than three times that many, castrated a horse, and amputated a dog's arm. The students slept on floors, and their leader, Dr. Eric Davis, slept in the firehall with the animals who stayed over.

I thought I'd share a few photos of the clinic, set up in our firehall.

This is Little Bit in recovery. She was brought to me last Friday. She has mange and was malnourished. She's great now and the mange is clearing. These folks can do surgery on very young animals, which is especially important in a place like this. We hope they will continue to come here, as they have for the last five or more. Otherwise, there is no close vet care, and most folks can't afford services anyway. The stray population is tremendous, but so much less so, thanks to the RAVS team.
