Bill has to work so we are spending a quiet day at home. We do have a granddaughter who is having a surprise 16th birthday party on Saturday. Hopefully traffic will be calm by Saturday.
Who is doing what for Memorial Day?
Sounds like fun!! DH PROMISED not to work or commit to anything but gardening for three days with me. We had a week of rain and warm weather and the weeds shot up like...well... weeds! LOL. So he's (hopefully) going to be my garden buddy all weekend long as we get things prepared to rip out old lawn and re-design our very tired yard. Hope I don't run out of steam...
My son has several BIG school projects due so I'll also be helping him (with dirt crusted fingernails I'm sure!) cut and paste stuff together.
Hope ALL have wonderful weekends and keep in mind why we have this holiday! Hugs all around!
I'll be here in Bed :))
And ditto what Laurie said !

This is always *such* a busy weekend!
We have 2 graduations, a baptism and a 'surprise' birthday party for the patriarch of a family our family has been friends with forever!
One of his daughters was in my wedding and I used to babysit the younger ones.
He was one of my dad's best friends.
Of course, on Monday will visit dad's and other relatives' graves with plants/flowers.
Get this....it's going to be 90+ degrees here on Monday! Unbelievable!
I do NOT like it hot....so I'll be working indoors.....weekends are the only time I have to get housework done!
Have a safe weekend, everyone.
90's here yesterday and today too Nan A/C runs non-stop.
Yeah, but you're in Florida!! lol!!
We do have some hot/humid spells here during the summer, and hate to run the AC but I think we will.
(The plants don't like it one bit...they like the fresh air and humidity....especially after being cooped up with the windows closed and the heat on since late September/October!)
Our electric company is a cooperative, and their rates are higher than in most cities and towns....when we run the AC it really shows on the electric bill.
I about flipped when we got our first electric bill when we bought our house.....it was about 3 times what the bill was when we lived in town.....but a friend had warned me that the cooperative's bills were higher than those we had when we lived in town.
But, we do live in a very rural area and have our own well and pump....so I guess that's the price we pay!
oOpS! Sorry for rambling!
I am hopefully going to Bob Smoley's set up this weekend :)
At least my fingers are crossed that I am going :)
Oooh...lucky you!
Have fun!
What is Bob Smoley's set up Lorry ?

:)
Looks like fun, Lorry :-)
Nothing special planned here - just digging weeds early before it gets too hot. I'm trying to figure out if there is a day that I don't have to go anywhere and can unplug the phones. It is supposed to be in the 90s, so maybe I can go visit my son's pool for a while.
WOW
Chris_Lorry
does Bob Smoley's sell violets
there one about 20 miles from me in dunnellon fl.didn,t know it was there
I will be at home, today I have my grandson but the rest of the weekend is mine. Don't know what I will do!
Hey April, Sometime I just like to be by myself and do nothing. That can be a real treat!
Lorry, I hope you enjoy the day at Bob Smoley's.
Stownes, unpluged phone sounds like heaven!
Nan, I hear you about the electric bill, Rates are going up in Maryland the 1st of June. I hope we don't have to choose between power and food. Holy Cow! Who's getting baptised?
Eunice, your good deed will be rewarded. If I were close I'd come visit. Bill always work holidays, too.
Blessings to all.
You all sound like it is going to be a fun weekend. I will be working instead of DH. I would have a retail job! Big sale, blah! My legs will be so tired I won't want to do anything. Luckily I worked in my garden Weds. Stay safe and have fun all.
Hey Achoogardner. I use to work at Sears. My heart goes out to you. I remember those tired legs.
Fun plans!
We're heading up to Pittsburgh for a couple of days to visit my family. My SIL's business partner (and the only other pharmacist) had a rough go of it last week with hospitalization & surgery for kidney stones -- and she's 5 weeks away from giving birth! Fortunately, mom & baby are doing fine, and baby is staying put for now. But that means that Linda is working double shifts to cover all hours that their pharmacy is normally open, although tomorrow she is taking the day off! So, 60+ hour weeks and 3 kids, you know she's beat regardless of how much my brother tries to do! Fortunately, he's been mostly able to work from home during all this. They'd been planning to visit us this weekend, but obviously we had to juggle that plan around!
I'm watering plants, fiddling with the fish tanks, packing, etc.... we'll probably head out around noon.
Happy Holiday Weekend!!!
Nothing special going on here.Working in the garden till it gets to hot.Same old thing.LOL.
Starfly..nope he doesn't sell violets I don't think
He is mostly cactus, hoya and such (my other fascination)
I still have not heard from him so we probably won't be going this weekend.
Boy oh boy did we open a hornets nest! I should have taken before and after photos!
Yesterday we just got the weeds down, after a week of rain and some good ol hot California weather, they grew about 3 feet high. Today we dug up some carex grass that had reseeded itself all over my perennial beds. We pulled out over a hundred of them. They can grow to three feet wide so you can imagine what my beds looked like!
Then we moved overgrown plants, replanted ferns and other plants that were half way sticking out of the ground (thanks to Miss Sophia, the naughty plant and drip irrigation eating basset hound!)
Next we dug and turned soil over and ammended with more nice soil and compost so that I can plant some pretties!
Tomorrow we pull more unwanted grasses, take out old fences and move more perennials in preparation to open up our yard and change part of the layout.
We want to pull out the old tired sod and lay new sod and irrigation, and expand the sod into the now weed infested hard pan part of the yard. Whew! lot's of work. I'm hiring two helpers tomorrow so we can get as much done as we can before DH disappears again! =)
Heading over to the neighbors or a glass of wine... Hope you all are having a great weekend. I know I am even if I'll be choking down advil for these sore muscles later on!
Wow, I'm exhausted just reading that account!
We went over to visit with my brother & his family this afternoon. I took along a bunch of tomato plants and a couple of *really* big pots and 3 big bags of potting soil (he has a tendency to plant in too-small pots with topsoil and then wonder why his tomatoes don't do well), and the kids helped me get them situated, and we also put in some new perennials and a bunch of petunias. I'd previously dug & separated a bunch of daylilies at their old house (they moved a couple weeks ago), and John planted them all around (at least 30 clumps!), and they look great! So I'm getting in a little gardening this weekend....
Dad bought about a dozen new rhodi's & other shrubs and had a couple yards of topsoil delivered last week, so we'll be working on the front yard here tomorrow. :-)
