Brugs and Datura

Bastrop, TX(Zone 8b)

I've got white Datura out in full sun that has been there for 3 years, doing great. I bought 2 triple purple datura and 3 yellow brugs. These seem to not like the full sun. Thought I'd plant them out back under some Oaks in what I call the 'Tropical Area'. They would get some morning sun and whatever peaks through the trees after that. What soil should I use to plant them? We are just sandy soil here.

I have family that lives in TX and they say the sandy soil just doesn't hold water at all. I would probably mix some top soil with the sandy soil or even some soilless mix, tho it doesn't hold water long either. It might even work best to plant them in pots and bury the pots. You would have to water them daily, but if it gets really dry, it's easier to water a pot than the ground that dries out so quickly. I plant all of my pots using soilless mix, but I live in Iowa. We don't get as hot as you most of the summer. Sometimes we are as dry, tho.
