Streptocarpus propigation

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I just got through reading the sticky on Streptocarpus propigation and I think I understand the basics, but I was wondering if there were any tips or pointers that anyone might have. One of my leaves broke off about halfway down and I hate to throw it away, so I was hoping to make some babies with it. Any tips?

Jesse I just do mine the same as AV's and they root faster than Av's. More on the dry side. You only need a 2-3 inch piece but I like using more but have done all ways.

Jesse, I do mine in the perlite the same as you do your AV leaves. I just repotted some leaves that Spider generously sent me. But after a while you need to repot when you see the roots, it seems if you leave them in the perlite just a bit too long, they start to decline (I found the same happens with AV's)

Just be bold and experiment!

Thanks guys. I sure hope this works since I only have the top half of a leaf. It got broken somehow and I just hate to throw it away. I think I will be able to get 3 pieces out of it and will hopefully have some babies soon.

I don't know about Allison and Laurie but i cover my leaves as I find they wilt and get dry very quickly if i don't.

Jesse maybe try both ways !

Allison, I tried them without cover and the leaf just wilted away and the borders got dry. I tried again with a cover and they all look OK. Here it gets very dry during winter. :o((

Covering is good . If you don't have enough humidity !
