What is the difference between catnip and catmint. My cat is a nip head. Just wondering if they are the same thing or different.

Catnip/Catmint?
Catnip is the one that cats enjoy..catmint does nothing for them.
Same family - Nepeta, but different plants. Catmint is mostly used as ornamentals. I have a few different ones in my garden and they are lovely. Catnip is grown more as an herb. My cats love both, but don't ursually eat the catmint, they just lie on it! The catnip - they devour.
Thanks. I knew that catnip was the good stuff, just didn't really know what catmint was. My DH wants me to grow catnip for my nip head cat, but I think it would attract the neighbor cats to my garden. I have a hard enough time keeping them away.
jen, grow it in a hanging basket. My cat always rolled in mine and killed it until I went to a hanging basket. Now I have leaves to pick for her.
I put an old birdcage over mine. It looks great and my cats can't destroy the plant
Darius- hanging basket...I was wondering what to do with those leftover hanging baskets. This may be the solution. Henry, the nip head, thanks you. And I thank you too.

Oh, wow. I bet that birdcage look awesome with the catnip coming through the sides. Do you have a pick Mobi?? :)
Actually there is no catnip outside the cage because my critters ate all of it. They are trying to reach in with their paws and get what's left! I'll have to get a picture of it.
jen i can spare some cuttings of catnip if you need some! do you have anything to trade?

I put catmint in a pot with my colius(sp?) When I rip the leaves my cat goes directly over to the plant and starts chewing it. I started some catnip from seed and didn't pay attention and put some other herb in with it. Who knows what will arrive!
