I sent my husband out to get some perlite and vermiculite. They are pulling all the vermiculite from the shelves, because the dust causes cancer. Has anybody heard this story? Just in case he found some at HD I told him to buy 5 bags of it. Walmart, True Value and Kmart had zippo......

The only issue I heard was with Vermiculite that was mined from the Libby mine in Montana which was supposed to have Asbestos contamination inside the vermiculite. This was some years ago but haven't heard anything since.
Well, I don't use it anymore anyway, but if it DOES cause cancer...why in the world would you want to buy 5 bags of the dangerous stuff????

O.K. here is the update. I called the nursery to see what was going on. And the owner there said that they no longer carried or could get the smaller bags of vermiculite because there was some scare about breathing in the dust from the bags, and that it was something to do with asbestos. But now here is the funny thing ( kinda like my comment about buying 5 bags of it ) They will sale them in 3.5 cubic bags.... LOL you would get more dust out of the bigger bag than you would the smaller one.. My husband did find a couple bags at walgreens, cancer causing or not, I wanted it...........
I read where if you Bar Be Que with charcoal and you get those burnt black marks on your meat it can cause cancer,I believe if you gonna get cancer you will get it no matter what.!!
