battery powered weed eater?

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

As of Friday, I'll have a new house with its very own ditch I'll have to mow. Does anyone have any advice regarding weed eaters? I don't want to do the gas type, and I'd as soon not deal with miles of extension cord, so I'm thinking battery powered. Anybody?

Thanks!

I currently use a battery powered Black and Decker weed eater that I have been very happy with for two years. (Purchased at Walmart). I previously owned a Toro battery powered weed eater that only lasted three months---Toro motor burned up after getting nontraumatically jammed in the "on" position.

My yard is a small north Dallas zero lot, so the battery powered option was best for me. My yard can be edged and trimmed within 20 minutes, so I've always had enough juice. The Black and Decker will run for about 30-45 minutes on full charge. It is good at trimming grass and knocking down grassy weeds. OK at edging.

I purchased the small, cheap version and the only ailment its had was some plastic separation where the long nose connects to the trimmer (cured with crazy glue and epoxy)

The convenience of cordless, environmental friendliness, low maintenance, and cheap price are worth the sacrifice in power for small yards.

If you have significant acreage, consider the gas edgers for their power and endurance. For yards less than 0.30 acre, the battery powered option is superior to lugging the electrical cord around.

That's exactly what I needed to hear, collincounty! Thanks so much. The yard is probably less than 1/3 acre, and this should do nicely. I've always had good luck (knock wood) with Black and Decker, too. Thanks!

Glad I could help. For more reviews of the black and decker cordless trimmers, check out epinions.com. Then, search black and decker cordless trimmer. The models that epinions has reviews on include the CST 800, CST 1000, CST 2000. The CST 800 is the model that I have.

Looks like other people have not had the greatest experience with the 800 model--problems with line feed, durability, power, and endurance. The CST 1000 and CST 2000 have better reviews (especially the CST 2000)

Best wishes for your new home and garden.
