Okie dokie....Got the shasta daisy seeds; now what??

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

not sure if this is where i am suppossed to be...but i was wanting perennials; this forum suggested i can still grow seeds now.....so i bought shasta daisy seeds; how much sun do they need?? thank you!!! in hot west texas

Midway, TX(Zone 8b)

I have the shasta daisies planted in a rock garden and mine get at least a half day of sun, maybe a little more. Then they are shaded by a huge oak tree during the hottest part of the day. Mine reseed and come back more beautiful every year. I love em!

Good luck with yours!

What part of Tx are you in, west? I grow Shastas as biennials down here--take up too much "real-estate" and don't look good except in the winter and when blooming in our humidity. I'll start mine to germinate indoors by mid June...will put out in ground around Sept1---basically coddle them and pray they stay alive until it cools off in late Oct. Oh, I guess I'll have daisies for the fall RU too. Keep us posted on your efforts....and have fun!

I think a garden is a journey, never a destination.

By the way, I'm going to grow this kind of daisy...If I'm not going to do a native variety, I want it unusual.

It's humidity ofJuly-Aug usually makes mine look pathetic is why I start over....I would still use the same time-table...you want them to get good, strong root growth before it gets real cold out there. You will probably be able to make them be good looking perennials for you. I'll revisit this thread when I start planting soon. In my opinion, you will need a good seed-starting mixture (usually available at the privately owned nurseries--I buy mine online) for anything this time of year (or for perennials all the time) because they will need to stay in plastic, what is the word, plugs?!? for awhile. I can post you a pick of the containers this weekend...my mind is kinda mush right now and I'm not good at writing descriptions even on a good day.
